sound degradation

Hi-

After happily using my Ultra for about 6 months, I began noticing a drop off in sound quality. At first I thought that it could be downstream in my audio chain but I did an a/b test between a cd going directly in my dac and streaming the same music on the ultra and the differences were quite striking. I posted in a wiim facebook group and a couple of others noticed the same drop in sound quality. It roughly started within the last 2 firmware updates. I tried looking into rolling back the last 2 updates but aside from doing a factory reset I wasn't able to.

Is Wiim aware of this issue and if so is anything being done? Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing? Thanks!

Yes I've also noticed this, I've got my ultra hooked via usb to my mojo & then to amp, electric guitars seem scratchy, & music doesn't seem as engaging/dynamic, more thin if that makes sense & bass control isn't as tight. I've the eq off, I thought something was up with my speakers initially, but stripped everything back tested my speakers (they're fine thankfully) & put everything back together...same issues, took the mojo out & used the internal dac still the same...been scratching my head completely confused as to what's going on🤷‍♂️ so you reckon it's been since recent updates on the wiim? Makes sense tbh as nothing else in my setup has changed....
Looked on the wiim app & can't find an option to roll back?
Annoying as im not enjoying the sound at all atm🤔
I'm using tidal so a different streaming service from you?

i only bought my ultra new @ christmas so doubt it would be a component degrading already 🤷‍♂️ definitely seems like an update issue as on day everything was fine & then not...i did an update the day I noticed too🤔 think it was possibly 3 updates back...

Interesting. I can report a similar story. I'm listening to an album today. The same thing again tomorrow. But it sounds different. Muffled, fewer highs, less dynamic. Then again, everything's fine. I thought I was imagining it. But now I read that others have the same problem. Strange.
Sorry for my English. It's using a translator.

Is the issue reflected in other rooms if you have any? I was wondering if it is its own output or what it is sharing with other rooms too?

No, I stream with my Ultra in the living room. No other rooms. The Ultra is only connected to my Yamaha amplifier. Analog. I mostly listen with headphones. Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro.

just with ultra?
It's worth wiim investigating this...or if anyone wants to take some control measures? ;-)

Hmmm. I do have a mini that i could sub in though it wouldn't be an apples to apples comparison as I'm using the USB out on the Ultra to an smsl p0 1000 pro reclocker to my dac. the mini would just go into my dac via optical.

does wiim monitor this forum? i'd like to hear their thoughts on this

No issues with my Ultra which I've had for about a year now -- listening to it right now and it sounds great -- clear, dynamic and balanced. Two thoughts -- first is the Ultra has a zillion different settings which could have gotten changed or turned on/off somewhere along the line. Second, I'm the biggest variable in my system and my physical/mental state can affect how I hear, so there is that possibility.

Also reset the Ultra and then power cycle it (remove wall power and reconnect).
