Just thought I would share my solution

After many reboots, cache clears etc I still couldn't get lossless to work on my Pro Plus.

I hit up Google and found that Chromecast doesn't support lossless audio as it compresses all streams.

So I went into settings on Wiim home and disabled Chromecast and went back to Spotify App and the Spotify Connect logo showed up for the Wiim and I can now use lossless.

To think Ive been using Chromecast into Meridian DSP7200s all this time as well...

Hope this helps

Steve

Hi, Welcome.

Do you mean that you have been using Chromecast intentionally all this time?

SpotifyConnect can connect automatically by simply pressing a preset button on the WiiM Remote. It's also a near-perfect solution for me, as I can switch between multi-room groups on the Spotify app and use Alexa voice control.
(It would have been perfect if I could add tracks to a playlist via voice control.)

Anyway, have fun 🤗

For the benefit of members visiting here, this is some general troubleshooting tips if you are unable to play Spotify lossless on your WiiM device.

  1. Check that the WiiM firmware is not a beta or older version
  2. Clear Spotify app cache (Android)
  3. Reinstall the Spotify app (iOS)
  4. Reboot the phone
  5. Reboot the WiiM device (unplug the power cable)

Once everything is checked, go to the settings screen after connecting to the WiiM device in the Spotify app. And select lossless in the sound quality settings.

You need to do this once per device. If you have multiple WiiM device, please set the lossless setting on each device.

I'm having some trouble here. And I did what Wiimer mentioned.
Using an Amp Ultra. When I'm in the Spotify app (opened thru Wiim app) I see the Ultra listed but under it it says Google Cast and if I use that it isn't lossless. Not sure if I'm missing something....

EDIT: I can get it to work if I disable Google Cast in the Wiim app. But if I do that I'm no longer able to use YouTube Music.

Is there a three-point icon on the right-hand side of the device list?

Tap it and you will be prompted to choose SpotifyConnect or GoogleCast.

If the three-dot icon does not appear and there is a 'Google Cast' indicator under the device name, try the following.

  1. Turn off Google Cast in the WiiM app.
  2. Connect to Amp Ultra with Spotify Connect.
  3. Play your favorite song.
  4. Open the WiiM app, tap the three-dot icon on the Now Playing screen, and add Spotify to your presets.
  5. Turn on Google Cast in the WiiM app.
  6. Return to the Spotify app and switch the cast destination to "This Phone" on the connection screen.
  7. Find Amp Ultra in the list on the connection screen and tap the three-dot icon on the right.
  8. Select Spotify Connect.
  9. Return to the WiiM app and turn off Google Cast.
  10. Reboot to Spotify app and connect to Amp Ultra.

Check that playback works properly with Spotify Connect.

Also, since you registered Spotify as a preset in (4), you can automatically connect to Spotify Connect by simply pressing the preset button on the WiiM Remote.

@Wiimer, thanks for that. Unfortunately, I get all the way to step 7 and there is no 3-dot icon on the right. I only see Google Cast under the Amp (nothing on the right where the 3-dots would be).

Edit: I just redid it again and went back in and (no kidding), the 3-dots were there for a second and then they went away and only Google Cast appeared. Weird. . . .

I've been having a similar issue the past few days where my wiims only show as chromecast and then sometimes, for a short time, some of them show as spotify connect.
And yet on a different device (both Android, same Android and samsung versions, both connected to the same wifi network) it's showing all as spotify connect.

That's odd.
Have you already tried troubleshooting #3?

Also, play Spotify using the preset button and open the 'Now Playing Screen' of the WiiM app. Check the icon at the top of the screen.

For Spotify Connect, you will see this icon.

GoogleCast's is this icon.

@Wiimer I have reinstalled Spotify and also cleared the cache on both apps.

If I use the preset button it does play lossless (even with Google Cast enabled).

It seems the problem arises when I go back to "this phone" and try to go back - then it only shows Google Cast.
If I leave it at Lossless, close both apps and then go back in, it does remain at lossless. If I go to another app, like Tidal Connect, and then go back, it still remains on lossless in Spotify. It seems I just have to stay on lossless and not change it.

I did a little testing, and when I tried to connect to a WiiM device after tapping "This Phone," it didn't connect properly. However, on my phone, rebooting the Spotify app allowed me to connect to the WiiM.

As @Mr Ee said, there may be a bug that prevents it from working properly on some phone models.

Please submit a ticket via the feedback section of the WiiM app.
(WiiM app -> More -> Feedback)

Your device logs are sent to help resolve issues.
(It's not clear if this is a WiiM issue or not..)

Oh you diamond!! I've been trying for days to try and get lossless on and this worked straight away... Nice one !!

The solution might be a viable workaround in certain conditions. It's worth trying it out, for sure. Personally, I didn't have to disable Chromecast on my WiiM Amp Pro, WiiM Ultra and WiiM Amp Ultra, lossless Spotify Connect is just working flawlessly alongside Chromecast.

But the explanation you found through Google is not correct. Chromecast (or Google Cast, as they now call it) actually does support lossless playback.

So far, Wiim support hasn't been much help (reboot phone, reinstall app, etc.).
Not sure they've seen this before.
As soon as I enable Google Cast, Spotify Connect stop showing as an option.
Yeah, they’ve seen similar before, back in Feb’25 where there was an issue with Spotify Connect clashing with Chromecast that caused WiiM to issue temporary beta firmware until Spotify updated their app - maybe they need to work with Spotify again to get round some users having to turn off Chromecast to get Spotify Connect working.

Update:

"Hi,

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

After testing the Spotify app on both Android and iOS devices, we found that the issue you reported may occur on the Android version.

As a temporary workaround, we recommend disabling the Google Cast feature.
For playing YouTube Music via Chromecast, we suggest logging into your YouTube Music account directly through the WiiM Home app and streaming music from there instead.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
WiiM Support"

FWIW - I'm having this exact same problem:
Spotify running on my Android phone only gives me the option to "Google Cast" to my WiiM Ultra.

This is a new problem, it wasn't happening a few weeks ago. Using Spotify running on an iPad, no problem, Spotify Connect to the same WiiM Ultra works fine.

WiiM Firmware: 5.2.730566
Android version: 16, Build BP3A.250905.014
iPadOS: 26.0 (23A341)
iPadOS Spotify versions: 9.0.86
Android Spotify version: 9.0.84.1340

Ouch, that doesn't look good this problem and right when 2 of my friends bought Wiim's this week because of my positive talk about them (one bought an Amp Ultra, the other a Pro Plus) Both of them have Android Phones, have premium Spotify subscriptions and want to stream lossless. I hope that the problem will soon be discovered and fixed.

My Android Spotify app is version 9.0.86.1358 and I have no problems using Spotify Connect with my WiiM Amp Pro, WiiM Ultra or WiiM Amp Ultra, playing "lossless".

I don't see a general problem here. Apparently minor compatibility issues, depending on certain (probably non-current) component versions.

I'm positive that the next Spotify update will resolve the issue for @Treaty, too. In the meantime there is still the workaround mentioned by @Ethan.SS earlier:

@harkpabst A general problem: Maybe it isn't but we don't know for sure I think. What do you mean by" depending on certain (probably non-current) component versions."?

The workaround is great news offcourse and no problem to us mostly technical folks but a generic user will not look for a workaround an expect it to work as it did earlier.
