Squeezelite Squeezelite and LMS

I’m not referring to the UPNPBridge plugin which works well with my Mini, but the older unsupported UPNP Media interface plugin.

What is the recommended UPNP one to use? I think for one it works but the devices aren't seen as squeezeboxes, and the other one doesn't work but for that it (if it works) makes the device appear as a squeezebox

I just couldn't get them to work properly.. UPNP streaming just seens the all artists branch, rather than the much better album artists view of LMS. so just disabled that and just use the SB instead

1. The UPnP/DLNA Interface plugin (by Andy Grudman) is the one NOT to use. This presents the LMS server as a UPnP server inside the WHA. It does work but is very very basic and like other UPnP servers the WHA doesn't work well with it.

2. The UPnP/DLNA Bridge (by Philippe_44) works very well with the Mini. It presents the Mini as a full LMS player and can be controlled via LMS i.e. standard GUI, Material or LMS controller apps. Cannot be synced and cannot do things like Smart Gain.

3. For Pro, Pro Plus and Amp just use the built in Squeezelite client. The WiiM will be presented as a player in LMS and can be controoled like the Mini. These WiiM's can be synchronised through LMS with other Squeezebox players. Smart Gain etc fully supported. Only caveat is ALAC is not supported.

Edit.
For 2. and 3. you only need to use WHA to setup the device. All control is then handled by LMS. Cover art and metadata will appear inside the WHA except when using 2. in what is called "flow" mode which should not be necessary these days. My Mini works perfectly with 2. with default settings.

What would you recommend for generic devices like TV's, AVR's etc?

In the case of TV's I would use an attached Chromecast and the Chromecast Bridge (also by Philippe_44) but this will never sync with other LMS players. There is a "mute" setting inside the Bridge that will let you use as a Now Playing screen only.

For AVR's. This depends on the model. I'd try the UPnP/DLNA Bridge in the first instance. If that can't be made to work but the AVR has Apple Airplay then I might choose to use the Airplay Bridge (also by Philippe_44). This will sync but is capped at 16/44.1.

I have an Onkyo and I have never managed to get it quite good enough with the UPnP/DLNA Bridge so I actually use a Raspberry Pi and external DAC into it's, otherwise unused, CD input. The Pi/Dac could be replaced by a WiiM but my combination is at least as good SQ wise.

Another alternative for the AVR is to run a second piece of UPnP server software pointing at the same files as LMS and use the AVR's built in UPnP client against it. Obviously that won't sync but coupled with a decent control app e.g. BubbleUpnp (Android) or mConnect (iOS) it might pass the WAF test (but unlikely).

hmm I won't bother then I thought a single plugin would do it. I'll just use my dedicated audio streamers (Squeezebox) then eventually move over to a Wiim if I need to.

I have 3 Bridge plugins installed and running. It's not really an issue.
