Stream through Wiim to Yamaha AVR

HI all,

In my living room I have a Yamaha RX-V585, which I use for movies and music. Front L&R and centre are Scansonic HD M20. Rears are Definitive Technology D7s. Sub is Polk PSW111.

I’ve been using Spotify Connect to stream directly to the Yammy. I’m testing Qobuz but I can’t use Qobuz Connect to stream to the Yammy. I can send it through Airplay 2 but would rather not as it’s a bit unreliable. I have all sorts of trouble accessing Qobuz directly from the Musiccast app. I think the wifi functions of the Yammy are showing its age, in terms of connection reliability and options.

What would be the best Wiim option for me to stream to and then feed audio to the Yammy, presumably through optical?

I run a Wiim Amp Pro in another room so am familiar with the app layout, etc. I don’t want another Wiim Amp in the living room due it being limited to 2.1, which does not cut it for movies. Also, I tried the Wiim Amp Pro with my existing speakers - it tried, but the difference in quality of the output compared to the Yammy was noticed.

If I can’t find a Wiim solution I may look at a new Yammy AVR, but that is much higher cost.

TIA.

I previously used the V585.

I think connecting the WiiM pro to the V585 via coax is the best option.

With an RCA connection, even if you enable the V585's Pure Direct mode, the signal might still pass through the V585's ADC and DAC.

With an optical connection, it might be limited to 24-bit/96kHz. (from what I recall...)

In any case, please try all connection methods.

Huh, I didn't realise that. But why not just use the qobuz app in wiim then?
Could do, but op wrote 'but I can’t use Qobuz Connect to stream to the Yammy' so I assume that's wanted.
Not quite the same user experience either.
And, as @Wiimer mentioned, I wasn't sure if the yammy accepted 192 over optical.
So the 'best', imo, was the pro.

Thanks all for the comments. Some further comments / queries:

I can stream Qobuz from within the Wiim App but I find it clunky compared to using the Qobuz app directly.

I've also started testing Tidal, which I quite like so far but face the same streaming issues.

Why use coaxial over optical? Is it just because optical is limited to 24bit / 96kHz?

Optical isn’t limited to 24/96, I’ve been getting 24/192 from my WiiM Mini from day one using the supplied optical cable.

Some say they prefer coaxial but I honestly can’t tell that and optical apart.

As @Burnside mentioned, all WiiM streamers can output 192kHz via Optical. As far as I recall, connecting the Mini to the V585's optical input didn't allow 192kHz playback. This was an issue on the V585's end. However, this was several years ago, so my memory might be incorrect. I should also add that I couldn't hear any difference between 96kHz and 192kHz audio.
