Subwoofer Output on Pro and Pro Plus?

Hi, does the Wiim Pro, and Pro Plus have a subwoofer output yet? I saw a reply from a Wiim staff member on Amazon that reported Wiim was working on a software update that would allow a dedicated subwoofer output, maybe through the COAX out?? Can anyone confirm or deny this? Or does anyone know of another way to connect a subwoofer to these units. I like the Ultra, but it doesn't do Airplay and that is a dealbreaker. answer.jpg

I’d say that response was very optimistic and given nothing has materialised in almost two years, I’d say it’s pretty unlikely to happen.

Wouldn’t Bluetooth meet your requirements in the absence of Airplay? There are other workarounds such as using an old AirPort Express, another WiiM such as a mini as a bridge, or a software solution such as discussed here https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/...-sonos-chromecast-players-using-airplay.4644/

With Airplay, the streaming quality is better than bluetooth, and with Airplay, I can have multiple Wiim units playing at the same time so music is playing throughout the house. I have 3 additional Wiim Amp Pro's in various locations.

I also forget to mention I need a trigger out for the speaker amp, as well as an optical IN for computer audio.

I feel like the only option for me is the Blusound Node ICON which which will be released soon, but it's a bit pricey at $1,000. It checks all the boxes.

While it’s maybe not as elegant as onboard airplay 2, you might want to consider a “bridge” device like the Belkin Soundform Connect, or indeed a WiiM Mini, connected to the optical input of one or each amp. If you use just the one, it could feed one or more WiiM devices in a Linkplay group, or if you use one per amp, you could group them in Airplay.

I'd prefer to not have additional accessories due to the shortcomings of Wiim technology .It looks like the Bluesound Node Performance 2024 model will work for my needs. I will be able to stream music all over the house as easy as a button click from my phone.

I know the topic has been beaten with a dead horse, but I'm really curious why Wiim announced this, then retracted it due to "limitations." Were they lied to by their manufactures or something?? Then stuck with a bunch of units that needed to launch ??

I am really excited for the future of Wiim and to see what other manufactures come up with.

Maybe I don't understand what you're asking for here, but you CAN connect a subwoofer to a Pro/Pro+. You just need to construct your eq settings as a low pass filter (if your subwoofer doesn't have its own crossover). Ideally WiiM updates the software and firmware to support subwoofer-specific tuning options, but in the meantime I am doing this with one of my Pro+ devices and it works well.

I don’t understand - how is the sub connected to a Pro Plus which doesn’t have a sub out connection?

Or are you guys talking about an additional dedicated subwoofer output? Obviously no the Pro/Pro+ does not have this. That's what the Ultra is for.

I'm talking about an additional sub out, or another dedicated output that has sub controls. The RCA out for most folks would be used for an external stereo amplifier. Hazenhart, I'm confused how you have a sub connected? Do you have active speakers or something. Please describe your setup or share a pic. Can you also screenshot the Wiim app and how you have your settings configured. Thanks!!

My whole setup is described here:

But to summarize the subwoofer part of it:
I am using a separate Pro+ to run a subwoofer. One Pro+ feeds my full-range main speakers, the second Pro+ feeds the subwoofer. The two Pro+ devices are a group. It's a little fiddly to set up and grouping needs to be more "persistent", but once that's done it works quite well. I'm actually surprised more people are not using the Mini, Pro, or Pro+ in this way -- they are affordable, network-linkable sources that can link and integrate speakers (full range or subwoofers) across your home, regardless of location, without concern for line-level or speaker-level connections. It's the core function of the Mini/Pro/Pro+ in my opinion. You can get two Pro's for the price of one Ultra, and then use them to site your mains and your subwoofer wherever you need them, without trying to run rca or speaker cables to distant locations. All you have to do is connect the Pro to the corresponding amp or active speaker.

Thanks, that makes it a lot clearer - I must have missed/forgotten your Nov post.

I figure expecting WiiM to "update" a piece of hardware with additional hardware features that are already covered by a different product is not reasonable. The Mini/Pro/Pro+ are not as fully featured as the Ultra. That's what they are. If you need a dedicated subwoofer out, you buy an Ultra.
That said, I do think that WiiM could implement some software/firmware updates to better use the Mini/Pro/Pro+ as stand-alone subwoofer devices.

I am curious about your use case, are you planning on using it as a pre-amp?

There are many active subwoofers that take line-input and output high-pass line output. So, a single WiiM Pro or Pro+ can drive a 2.1 system.

A few screen caps of my grouped mains Pro+ (kitchen) and subwoofer (sub) Pro+. Happy to share and discuss other settings.

Hi yes it will be used as a pre-amp in my garage. I already have a monolith 2 channel amp with a 12v trigger input. I also have a powered subwoofer. As mentioned, my non-negotiables are Airplay, sub out, ethernet port, optical IN, and trigger OUT. So far, non of the Wiim products meet all of these specs. The $500 bluesound does have this product. Bluesound also has a $1000 ICON model coming out that will meet my needs.

I asked since I have a very specific setup, I connect my Wiim via Coax (Digital) to my active speakers and wiims sub-out to my active subwoofer, as wiim is ”clever” enough to sync volume both digitally (spdif) and via analog (sub out).

I am also curious about the Icon, but not sure it could manage this scenario…
