Hi there, hope you can help me out :)
First post here, since I can’t seem to find an answer when searching!

I have a stereo pair of Apple HomePod 2’s and recently acquired an SVS subwoofer to complement the speakers with a deeper and effortless low-end. The subwoofer is connected via a WiiM mini and any media is airplayed through my Apple TV to the speakers. It works quite well together.

When I initially set up the sub, I did the ‘sub crawl’ and then tuned it in the SVS app with a crossover of 70Hz and initially played around the volume/gain around -12db to -16db, and that sounded pretty good to my ears.

However I only realized recently that the WiiM volume was set around 10 (on the 100 volume scale), and wasn’t sure about this. I googled this and it’s recommended to set the volume to ‘fixed volume’ which puts it at 100. I did this and now the bass from the subwoofer is extreme. I had to set the gain now at the lowest level of -60db, with -55db being the highest I would go because it’s just too overpowering thereafter (the gain scale is from -60db to 0db).

This doesn’t seem right to me and feel like I could be doing damage in some way?
But this is a unique situation, as the subwoofer is not directly connected to an AVR/amp like in most cases, so I’d just like to get some suggestions or any feedback regarding this - Should I set the volume back down? At volume 100 however, the subwoofer feels like 10x more powerful, and I can actually feel the rumble and room shaking when I’m watching a movie, even at -55db gain.

Thank you!

Hi

Are you connecting the WiiM Mini's AUX-out to your subwoofer? If so, do not set the Mini to fixed volume. First, set the subwoofer's volume knob to 50%. Then set the Mini's volume to 0% and its volume limit to 0%.

Next, turn the WiiM volume up to 100%.
I recommend gradually increasing the volume limit from 0% until it reaches an appropriate level. Finally, set the Mini's volume to fixed, which will then lock the subwoofer's volume.

Thanks for the reply!
Yes sorry, connected through the aux-out to RCA.

I will give this a try and see. So are you saying that I should not change the subwoofer volume knob at all (set to 50%), and only adjust through the WiiM?
