Ultra curious

Hi there folks,
I've currently an Argon Audio streamer that I use for Spotify Connect, however it doesn't support lossless streaming, (or at least my older M2 mk2 version doesn't). Curiosity is getting the better of me and I'm looking at replacements that are able to stream lossless.
I use the Argon in the digital domain and process the output in an Aune x8 DAC into a Yamaha A-S1200 integrated amp. I'd like to keep the amp as an integrated as I've also use a CD player attached to it.
I assume I can run the WiiM Ultra in exactly the same way as the Argon and in the process I get lossless and a larger display for cover art. That's already quite a big win.
So to my questions:
Can I run the Ultra with its own onboard DAC, disable the volume control/pre-amp and use my Yamaha as-is? (box reduction by removing the X8 and power supply would be a bonus if the sound as "as good").
Can I use the Ultra with the Yamaha and run my sub (Rel T5) direct from Ultra?
Can I run the Ultra with the Yamaha and take advantage of the room correction?

Yes, you can use the Ultra's DAC and line out to feed the Yamaha and set the Ultra's volume to fixed 100%

Can I use the Ultra with the Yamaha and run my sub (Rel T5) direct from Ultra?

Yes, although in that case you'd need to use the Ultra's volume control, not set at a fixed 100%

Can I run the Ultra with the Yamaha and take advantage of the room correction?

Yes, all the Ultra's outputs benefit from room correction. You might consider feeding your CD into the Ultra for it to benefit too.

Many thanks!
Interesting comment on running the CD in to the Ultra, assuming that would be the digital out from the CD player?

Yeah, if it has optical out - the Ultra doesn’t have a coax input. You could use rca out from your CD player, but that would then be digitised by the Ultra’s input ADC which some don’t like.

Another possibility would be to connect the Ultra to your A-S1200's "MAIN IN", completely bypassing its internal preamp section, essentially turning it into a power amplifier.

Then run your CD player into the WiiM Ultra, preferably through the optical input.
This will enable complete control over your general volume from the app/remote/WiiM Ultra volume knob.

I've been running an Ultra as preamp into a power amp with no issues at all.

Yes, that's an option, but I'd like, for no other reason than it just feel "right", to try and utilize the Yamaha to its full. Although the beauty of this new age of HiFi is that the config possibilities seem endless.

For the room correction I read you need an iPhone, is there a minimum spec as I'll be need to borrow one from one of my children?

Anyway I'm going to get a demo Ultra home, hopefully next week, and see what the results are. I'll post up some findings and more questions no doubt then.

You don’t need an iPhone for room correction, it’s just that mics on Android phones can vary greatly whereas they don’t on Idevices. Best getting say a Drayton Imm-6c calibrated microphone which are modestly priced.
