Ultra firmware 5.2.633933 vs 5.2.633165

Ok so after talking to you guys, it appears there are indeed multiple firmware releases out in the wild, and not all WiiM Ultras will ever be on the same exact official firmware. Interesting. I have never encountered this before with a home audio product and it’s interesting to follow.

So perhaps when someone submits an issue, invariably WiiM (at their own whim) may attempt a fix for that particular person and push out firmware specific to that users machine, and if it works, may include that fix into a broader more general release to everyone else.

Sounds about right 👍

Still weird that a new unit came with what could be a beta firmware. It can't really be a returned unit as the firmware date is last week.

There are tales that sometimes closing one hole means opening a few others. But as long as its free of charge the crowd keeps shouting: "Hurray, well done!" 😎

Yeah I thought this was weird behavior, however I misspoke earlier….the unit with the highest firmware is actually my first unit purchased Oct 5. Yet upon updating it found a beta firmware lol

WiiM officially confirmed this process a couple of times here in the forums. So, it's not just an educated guess, it's reality.

But this doesn't necessarily explain ...

... this. The only thing I could think of is that the Ultra might have installed during the setup (did you notice such?) and somebody had a wrong MAC address whitelisted for some beta or "special interest" firmware (your Ultra's MAC address that is).

If this state doesn't eventually resolve itself send feedback to WiiM through the WiiM Home app and tell them you want to be put on the regular release channel. For now I wouldn't worry.

Those who still remember the saying "never change a running system grew up in the last millennium. ;)

Me, as a guy from the last millennium call it simply tinkering. Never ready, always a few lengths behind the leaders. Much a bit, nothing excellent. Parole, parole, parole...

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, perhaps my MAC was incorrectly whitelisted. I’ll continue to pursue with my support ticket
