I am turning them off at night but always make sure the DAC is powered on before I turn the Ultra on. Yes, the DAC is set to use its USB input as well. Are you turning the Ultra or SMSL off every night? The Ultra will only show a connected USB DAC if the latter is powered up and switched to its USB input. So, if they are turned off, first turn on the SMSL and then the Ultra
Best way of finding if it's a bug if the units are both powered up and you still have an issue is to submit a ticket via the feedback section of the WiiM Home app
Cheers. I've raised a ticket as you suggested.I don't have that issue with my Ultra and its USB connection to my Linn amp which, like you, I power down each night and back up the following morning.
Might be worth a ticket then, and perhaps contact SMSL as well.
Well, I submitted a ticket 2 days ago and have had no response...which is unusual for WiiM support.Send the ticket as soon after it happens and before the reboot so there's a chance of the Ultra's logs having some evidence
It’s the weekend so things do tend to slow down a bit…Well, I submitted a ticket 2 days ago and have had no response...which is unusual for WiiM support.
I suspect you're right. Shame if it's a hardware limitation. It would be great if they could sort it out with software. So many DACS now have USB inputs so it would make sense to have the USB output from the Ultra act like all the other outputs that I've never had this issue with.I have come across the same issue you're having. It happens even if I power on the DAC first, then the Ultra.
Have no issues when using optical output, but only happens with USB.
I suspect it's how the output is controlled/handled. I suggested to them if they could make the USB connection always active like the other outputs (instead of only detecting when connected) but that could be due to a hardware limitation. Or give an option to have the USB output recheck the connection after 15 seconds or so.
It's been over a week with support but doesn't seem like it's going anywhere unfortunately.
If you wouldn't mind, that would be useful. If it's not a universal issue, that would be good to know.No such issues here either, with either an amp pro or an ultra into my usb dacs.
Turn the dac on, wiim auto switches to usb output, turn it off, back to line out / speakers.
One of my dacs is the smsl su-9 (non-ultra version); not used that one with my ultra for a while, but I could retry it.
For those who don't want to read a load of steps and results, my summary is:If you wouldn't mind, that would be useful. If it's not a universal issue, that would be good to know.
My issue is that the DAC NEVER appears as an output option unless I reboot the Ultra.....regardless of all the other steps taken. For those who don't want to read a load of steps and results, my summary is:
The (my) ultra doesn't auto switch to usb output when a device is first connected, but once selected it will switch to usb whenever the same device reappears as an available output.
Ultra connected to smsl su-9 via usb, smsl turned off. Ultra set to Line Out.
Turn on smsl. Ultra output screen shows usb output is now available, but stays on line out. Not necessarily wrong / bad; just because a new output is available doesn't mean the ultra ought to switch.
Use ultra screen to choose smsl in the output screen.
Turn smsl off, ultra switches to line out.
Turn smsl on, ultra switches to usb.
Repeated 5 times 'till I got bored.
Pulled usb lead from ultra, it switched to line out.
Fiio k11 r2r turned on and set to usb input, but not yet connected to ultra.
Plugged usb lead into ultra.
Ultra output screen shows usb output is now available, but stays on line out.
Use ultra screen to choose fiio in the output screen.
Change fiio input to optical, ultra switches to line out.
Change fiio input to usb, ultra switches to usb.
Turn fiio off, ultra switches to line out.
Turn fiio on, ultra switches to usb.
Just in case my 'Never' standby setting is a factor:
Changed ultra standby mode from Never to 30 secs.
Waited 30 secs
Touched ultra screen.
Still shows usb output.
Change fiio to coax in, ultra switches to line out.
Waited 30 secs...
Touched ultra screen.
Still shows line out.
Change fiio to usb in.
Ultra switches to fiio.
Pull usb lead from ultra, switches to line out.
Smsl on and set to usb input, plugged lead into ultra. Ultra stays on line out.
Choose smsl.
Turn smsl off, ultra switches to line out.
Turn smsl on, ultra switches to usb.
Pull usb from ultra, switches to line out.
Plug usb into ultra, switches to usb.
Hopefully WiiM will respond soon to your ticket - if not post the ticket number here for the attention of admin and they may be able to escalate it for youMy issue is that the DAC NEVER appears as an output option unless I reboot the Ultra.....regardless of all the other steps taken.
Hi, the issue is actually with the SMSL DAC. If you try another brand (like Topping), you’ll notice that the problem doesn’t occur anymore. To resolve the issue without rebooting the WiiM device, you can change the input on the DAC from USB to another (such as optical or coaxial), and then return to USB. You’ll see that the WiiM will recognize your DAC again under the USB output.I'm using the USB output from my Ultra to connect to the SMSL SU-9 Ultra. Every morning I have to reboot the WiiM Ultra to get it to recognise the DAC it's connected to. Is this a bug that can be fixed?
That doesn't work for me as unless I reboot the DAC, the USB output is greyed out on the Ultra.Hi, the issue is actually with the SMSL DAC. This works for me most of the time, however, sometimes as Dazza experienced, it won't detect at all and I needed to physically reconnect the USB cable to force it to detect again.Hi, the issue is actually with the SMSL DAC. My reading of that is that it’s a scan of usb drive contents, not connection of an external usb DAC.This works for me most of the time, however, sometimes as Dazza experienced, it won't detect at all and I needed to physically reconnect the USB cable to force it to detect again.
My Ultra is going into an integrated DAC/Amp - Audiolab 7000a.
Also, still no updates from WiiM support team, however, I noticed they posted today that there is another firmware update that mentions USB optimisation, so I wonder if this will have any effect on our problem..
"USB Indexing: Fixed unexpected interruptions during USB scans."

I just got the update and installed it. You're right. I guess I was being hopeful! Unfortunately it didn't work and the issue persists. My reading of that is that it’s a scan of usb drive contents, not connection of an external usb DAC.
