USB output requires reboot

I just got the update and installed it. You're right. I guess I was being hopeful! Unfortunately it didn't work and the issue persists.

Fyi, my setup is

TV (HDMI ARC) > WiiM Ultra (USB, 12v trigger out) > Audiolab 7000A (USB, 12v trigger in) > Monitor Audio Gold 100 5G

With this exact setup, but using optical instead of USB, it works flawlessly and is seamless. No physical interaction is required with the devices.

Ticket number is 518616.
@RyanWithWiim @WiiM Support @WiiM Team - hi, any updates on the ticket number mentioned? Thx

This works for me most of the time, however, sometimes as Dazza experienced, it won't detect at all and I needed to physically reconnect the USB cable to force it to detect again.

My Ultra is going into an integrated DAC/Amp - Audiolab 7000a.

Also, still no updates from WiiM support team, however, I noticed they posted today that there is another firmware update that mentions USB optimisation, so I wonder if this will have any effect on our problem..

"USB Indexing: Fixed unexpected interruptions during USB scans."

Please let us know if this firmware upgrade resolves the issue for you.

Unfortunately the recent firmware update didn't address the issue, and the issue persists.
I had the same issue with my dac. Reported it and they said is a compatibility problem. I decided to use a ddc from douk audio that is quite inexpensive to solve that issue and to use I2s connection as a freebie. I use the Ultra in the living room and my wife couldnt handle the fiddling. Since the DDC is always on problem solved. Until last night and the new firmware. I had to reboot to make it work again. This morning more of the same. I need to wait and see if happens again

Yep I am in the same situation - trying to make it as easy as possible so that my wife can also enjoy the great audio. I now have it set to optical as default as that works the best in this situation. I guess when doing more critical listening and enjoying music, I could manually switch to USB output.

It's interesting you mentioned using a DDC, as I have recently purchased a SMSL PO100 Pro to try to overcome the issue as well since it's always on. It hasn't arrived yet so I can't test, so I hope it works.

Update from WiiM support team - sadly they have also told me that it may be a compatibility issue, and to seek a replacement with my retailer.

Unfortunately I can't say I'm convinced as it seems to be happening with a few others - but I totally understand that it's more than likely that they can't design the Ultra work with all types of DAC's and have to agree in that regard.

Here's hoping adding the DDC may help.

My problem is that the dac doesnt have optical in. Coaxial is buggy and only accepts rates up to 96. With other sources it works up to 192. And USB keeps disconnecting. So I had to get the DDC because fixed output resolution was implemented not so long ago and I had to change outputs constantly depending on what I was listening to

Installed the latest update and the issue persists. I still have to reboot the Ultra for the USB out to be available.

Well, despite several updates to the Ultra, I still have to reboot it to activate the USB output to my external DAC.

I had an issue like that with my Topping d70 pro until I turned off auto-on via audio sensing in the DAC and used good ol' 12v trigger instead.

With autosensing the DAC would initially turn on with the wiim performing a USB enumeration, but once it turned itself off after the audio timeout it would vanish from USB.

I haven't tried to diagnose further (and no longer have access to a usb3 analyser). It would be an issue with the WiiM usb host controller driver / root hub, not properly handling devices going into low power mode for example or it could be an actual issue with the DAC.

I didn't pursue this further with the WiiM Team, but I thought I'd share my findings here.

Recently I added the FiiO K11 R2R DAC and a SMSL PO100 Pro DDC to my system.

Ultra > K11 R2R (USB) = Ultra has no issues detecting the DAC when powered on/off (I ended leaving the DAC on most of the time).
Ultra > PO100 Pro > K11 R2R (USB) = Ultra has no issues, because PO100 Pro is always on and gets power from the Ultra USB out.

To echo @bherren I agree and understand that although it's difficult to make things work with all different makes of DACs, but perhaps the Ultra USB is programmed in a specific way that isn't so universal, so that's why we see it working with some setups and not others.

In the meantime I am happy with my setup and my DAC/DDC don't take much power anyway.

I don't understand why people would turn off a Dac every night?! Mine has been on for years, same with my phono stage and subs. The only thing I power off is my preamp/amp...

Possibly for cost or environmental reasons? I can think of many reasons why people turn off equipment when not in use whereas I can only think of one why you'd leave it on permanently.

The phono stage of my old Mission Cyrus 1 was powered even when the amp was off.
