The USB output of the WiiM Ultra is USB audio only. To enable it it requires connection to a device that accepts USB audio input. As soon as you have that, you will see it as a selecable output.
I know this now, about HDMI. It doesnt mention ANYWHERE that it has to be plugged in to USB to make it selectable. Optical coaxial, RCA are selectable and they arent hooked up.

That is the normal way. You can have multiple USB devices attached and to know what to make selectable, they need to exchange configuration information first.
