What are the chances the line out on my new WIIM Ultra is DOA?

I'm getting no sound coming from a line output. RCA Cable is tested with another system, used 3 sets of powered speakers, changed Line Output audio settings, the headphone output works fine (sounds incredible actually). The only way I could get any sound was by using an amp/speaker setup and cranking all volume to max which faintly played an extremely clip distorted sound. I'm new to a quality DAC and using that with the WIIM headphone out was the best I've ever heard my headphones sound, eager to hook up the WIIM to my speakers but I think I may have a defective unit. Unless I'm missing something. (doubtful)

What do you have the line out level set to under audio settings, and what’s the input sensitivity of the input on the device(s) you’re connecting to?

Input I've tried WIFI and Bluetooth, Phono input, and Line in (phono through preamp). They all sound as expected through headphone out. I've cycled through every line out level with each test and nothing is produced by the line output. Factory Reset didn't fix it either.

Please tell us the model name of your amplifier.

Also, check again that the Ultra output is switched to Line-out and the amplifier input is switched to Line-in.

Nope, I think I checked that 10 times. Some of my tests were with the RCA line-in. Amplifiers I'm using are a Fosi x5 for the phono pre amp and a Fosi Z3 for the power amp. These two work fine if connect directly. Also tried with Mackie MR8 studio monitors, Klipsch R-15PMs, and a cheap pair of powered speakers.

From past cases, simple mistakes such as cable connections or input/output switching are very common when such problems occur.

Is the RCA input selected on the front panel of the Fosi Z3?

If you can post pictures of the Ultra and Fosi Z3 terminals, as well as screenshots of the audio settings, audio input and audio output screens in the WiiM app, we may find unexpected problems.

I misremembered. It's a a Fosi Z3 so there's only one input. But that also doesn't explain why it isn't working with the powered speakers. I also ran a connection to the AUX input on the powered speakers from the headphone jack (works), and from another device to the speakers RCA. I'm 95% sure at this point the unit I received isn't working, just not sure how that's possible. There's no sound at all. I think the distorted signal i got is just noise interference. In order to get it I had to overdrive the gain on the phono preamp and max out the wiim and power amp. It doesn't come at all with the powered speakers.

Indeed, if you are not getting sound from the RCA inputs on your Mackie MR8 or other powered speakers, there may well be a problem with the Ultra's Line-out.

Please submit a ticket via the feedback section of the WiiM app. A device log will be sent to help resolve the issue.

Sorry, just to check again, you have tried all inputs on Ultra and confirmed that there is no sound coming from Line-out, correct?

E.g., if you play TurnIn radio from the Ultra browse screen, does no sound come out?

Yes no sound with turnin radio, phono, line-in, bluetooth, wifi, or ethernet. I haven't checked the HDMI,Optical, or Coaxial inputs. Headphones out always works (and sounds incredible, like shockingly incredible I did not know I was missing this quality). I will submit a feedback ticket on the app.

Phono preamp is connected to the Ultra's Line-in? (not Phono-in).

I couldn't find a Fosi Z3 - is it a Fosi V3?

Yes a V3, i mistyped it again lol. And yes phono preamp is to line in, or phono directly to wiim. But most of my tests have just been using it as a streamer. Thanks for your help. Hopefully I can get a replacement unit or there's something I'm missing (i doubt it)

Okey

I believe if they find a problem with your device, they will send a replacement immediately. If your problem is solved, I hope you will let us know here again.
