Yeah, Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty. Complete unknownsI’m starting my listening session today with this album from an artist that I have never heard of, but perhaps some of our Scottish members may be familiar with.

Did you have to look them up, or did you already know of them?Yeah, Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty. Complete unknowns
Well aware of them from Billy Connolly’s emergence as a stand up comedian, the LPs of his early performances, umpteen appearances on Michael Parkinson’s chat show, countless DVDs and videos of his worldwide appearances, film roles etc etc.Did you have to look them up, or did you already know of them?
Perhaps I didn't word it correctly, but I meant had you heard of The Humblebums as a group?Well aware of them from Billy Connolly’s emergence as a stand up comedian, the LPs of his early performances, umpteen appearances on Michael Parkinson’s chat show, countless DVDs and videos of his worldwide appearances, film roles etc etc.
And Gerry Rafferty - who hasn’t heard Baker Street from his City to City album? And the band Stealers Wheel that he was one of the main members of, with their Stuck in the Middle With You? A brilliant artist gone too soon due to his alcoholism. Well worth checking out all his albums.
So yeah, pretty well known not just to their compatriots but worldwide I’d say
Indeed, but probably after Connolly’s emergence as a comedian and Rafferty’s early music career. I wouldn’t say I had listened to any of their stuff but was aware of them.Perhaps I didn't word it correctly, but I meant had you heard of The Humblebums as a group?
It's actually quite good and worthy of a listen, I only discovered them when I was going to play an album from Gerry Rafferty, and saw it mentioned about him and Connolly being in the Humblebums, so I looked it up and am listening now.Indeed, but probably after Connolly’s emergence as a comedian and Rafferty’s early music career. I might have to do that now too - I think there might be a few tracks I’ll recognise. Sorry for the crossed wires…It's actually quite good and worthy of a listen, I only discovered them when I was going to play an album from Gerry Rafferty, and saw it mentioned about him and Connolly being in the Humblebums, so I looked it up and am listening now.
As you may have guessed, my recent listening sessions have started with one artist, and then moved onto what Qobuz, or Tidal consider to be a similar artist, and have gone on to hear music from artists that I haven't previously heard of, and probably never would have discovered.I might have to do that now too - I think there might be a few tracks I’ll recognise. You had me confused for a bit, and then I realised.Up at 8:00, you can't be late.....
