What are you listening to?

A quarter of a century (already) later, Air presents a reissue of the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's film, The Virgin Suicides, which helped to internationalize their name.

It was released in 1999, a year after Moon Safari, their first album, whose 25th anniversary they also celebrated with a tour whose success testifies to the impact of the duo's music, which embodied another facet of the French Touch with its ultra-ethereal lounge music.

Why this reissue? Because the original was made on a small budget, explains Nicolas Godin, one half of Air, who found the sound too "digital, cold, and metallic" due to the technical constraints of the time. "I always regretted the way that record sounded, so we remixed it in a warmer, more organic way, the way it was meant to sound."

This is an opportunity to listen to a more “authentic” version of the album and its highlights such as Playground Love, Highschool Lover and Clouds Up, of which we can hear demos and alternative versions in the second part.

Technical constraints in 1999? I wonder what they were.

Kate Bush album The Other Sides was a collection of all the B-sides and other songs that didn't exist on any album.

It was part of the Remastered Box Set that was released in 2018. That set is no longer available.

Best of The Other Sides has been designed for people who didn’t have access to that original box set. The title is self-explanatory.

My new Heco Aurora XT700 arrived at noon today. I've been listening to them for two hours now with the Ultra as a player on my Yamaha AX-497. Even though they haven't “broken in” yet, they sound incredibly good. I still have a pair of Heco Metas 500 connected to the Yammi, so I can compare them easily. I love my living room system 😃
