Why does DLNA/UPnP suck?

I've tried various DNLA servers

Asset
Minimsever
Synology
Twonky

And various apps, bubble, wiim home app

Asset initially looked ok as it has decent amount of customisation and through the wiim app, the main menu looks ok, however non music items for the wiim device are still on the screen taking up space, and currently I'm reading/writing to the NAS and whilst this is happening Wiim app/asset is SLOW. Like one minute to go into A branch. It also doesn't cache the images so as you scroll it loads then it's ok.

Then with apps unless you pay for them you get ads

Cannot access the UI/music player over IP from a computer. If this is the state of DNLA I can see why people don't use audio streamers.

And yet with all the above issues and limiations there is one specific server/app that doesn't have any of those problems. Any guess what? :ROFLMAO:

Minim is fast as hell, at least on my basic QNAP NAS.

Don‘t do the copy-to-NAS and scanning simultaneously. First tings first.

LMS (Lyrion Music Server) works fine with my Wiim devices. I don't use the Wiim Home app to control it- use Squeezer on my android phone and tablet. When I play music via Tidal I use their app with Tidal Connect. I only use the Wiim Home app if I want to make some settings changes to the Wiim devices.

I'm doing some other file (non audio) transfer.

The database is scanned in fully, so Asset/bubble/wiim home app should just be looking at the databse file and SHOULD be fast, it's not.

Mimim interface is basic, I guess have to pay for the full version

I'm trying Emby out.

I would use the UPNP media renderer in LMS but it's not supported, so UPNP isn't discoverable on the LAN without that. But You can use the UPNP bridge instead 3.4.6.

yup that's my go to reference...LMS on a Pi, LMS app on android.

I want to have a DNLA/UPNP server running so whenever I have non Squeezebox/Wiim devices connected I can use this

You‘ll have to pay for Asset as well after 30 days.
Yes, Minim trial is very basic. The paid version is affordable though. And despite it being a 2-year licence only, you can use it forever. You‘ll just not get any updates any longer.

LMS (Lyrion), I come from there and used to swear by it. But Minim is so much faster and integrates very well into the WHA.
There is no LMS app. You‘ll either have to use Material skin in your browser or iPeng (on iOS) or …. ? on Android.

Well there is the plugin UPnP/DLNA plugin for LMS but you know that.

There are two, the old one allows the server to be discovered on the LAN but it's ancient plugin not updated, the Bridge is a new one.

I can control output to the TV with just the bridge, but I cannot find the LMS server on the Kodi box - unless I have the old media renderer enabled (then it only uses the generic music system, not what you see in LMS)

The new bridge sucks. Sorry to be so blunt.

I have tried Minim several times, with different NAS. The issue is that, even though it's really fast when you install it, it starts slowing down a lot after a few days of usage. Has anyone noticed that?
I've been using it for over a decade on various Raspberry Pi and have never noticed that.

The author provides superb support on their forum so you should have raised it there.
