Why is the screen more decorative than functional?

The touchscreen and remote were major selling points for me, but both are surprisingly limited. While you can change the volume, inputs, and skip tracks, you cannot browse your music-whether it’s stored on an HDD, NAS, or Tidal.

In reality, you still rely on your phone for almost everything: selecting playlists, switching albums, browsing folders, and more. All time iphone in your hands...

The screen feels more like a decorative feature than a functional control interface. Why these limitations exist is unclear.

Why can’t the WiiM be fully functional through the touchscreen or the screen and remote?

Why can’t I view and browse my HDD or NAS tracks directly on the screen?

Why is there no built-in Tidal app or Tidal browser available on the screen interface?

I guess when people see it has a screen like a phone, they expect it to behave like a phone. The reality is probably that the cpu and ram available in current WiiM devices comes nowhere near what your phone has, so is likely to be accordingly restricted in features.

That may be coming in a future firmware release.

Why is there no built-in Tidal app or Tidal browser available on the screen interface?

WiiM devices don’t run android so can’t run OTS apps like Tidal. Like NAS browsing, a third party Tidal interface may be technically feasible in future releases.

These restrictions don’t really bother me as my Ultra sits 3m away on my hifi shelf and I don’t sit at a desktop to listen to music where touchscreen access might make more sense - I suspect I’m not alone.

Try controlling music streaming on a smartwatch - similar problems. Essentially, the screen is too small, and is largely more decorative than practical

I personally don't use the screen besides confirming the Wiim is On, but could be an idea if resources are scarce to make something like "carplay", "androidauto" or "mirror screen" for the Wiim screen, I had a very old and slow Chinese Android car stereo, almost unusable with Waze and Spotify, but when used with Carplay it was very sleek and could use it as normal.

Well, I had to go up and downstairs twice before I remembered the stupid thing was in the car. So I had to move loads.
If only the remote that was sat right Infront of me did something useful

Look at the bright side, the Wiim helps you not to miss important calls as it keeps your phone near you

When I am sitting in my listening chair, around 4m away from the wiim, the screen is of no use to me, I suspect that WiiM has the same design in mind, it's functional, but the reality is that no-one is listening close enough to use the touch screen with a conventional hifi system.

When strolling through this forum it seems that a real hype started about "the screen". Shortly after that the complaints about this itty-bitty toy started. You asked for a screen, you have got one. No one could say the size of the screen was not clear before purchase. Love my Ultra and its features although the mouse cinema is there, not because.
