Just got wiim amp pro a couple of days ago , it is making a very low buzzing / coil whine noise in standby mode that can be heard from 1-2 meter or so , is it normal? Or should it be dead silent? Can somebody check also they have the same issue? Speakers are silent, noise is coming from inside either from switching power supply or soc board. I tried unplug all the cables but bananas and still same

No, this is not normal. The WiiM Amp Pro should be dead silent.

Some early revisions of the original WiiM Amp had a noticeable number of devices with this problem. I haven't heard this from any WiiM Amp Pro owner before (including myself).

You can send feedback to WiiM through the WiiM Home app about this hardware issue (tab More => Feedback). But I assume that the unit is defective and probably needs to be replaced.

I just unpacked my old wiim amp to check it under the same circumstances and it is dead silent I am returning pro and stick with wiim amp as I really don't have energy to try again. I also had to buy wiim amp twice due to quality problems and I am kind of frustrated. Returning wiim amp pro is just pain in the a.. as I didn't buy it from Amazon and had to bear the cost for return and need to find some printer to print out return info. I am also adding comparison noise for both amps for the ones interested.

I feel your frustration.

However, you've had really, really very bad luck here. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot remember a single case in this forum where a WiiM Amp Pro had developed coil whining. Also, for the original WiiM Amp the problem was limited to PCB version 2 and (to a lesser degree) PCB version 4.

If the WiiM Amp Pro is defective, the seller must repair or replace it. This is not a case of a return because you changed your mind and decided to not keep it. It's broken, the dealer has to fix it.

Yes but you choose

1.Paying 10 Euros to return it back and close the case and buy it from Amazon next time when there is a discount

2. Try to explain what is coil whine to a person that never heard before asking for replacement sending 5 mails waiting weeks and later you can still get a fault one because they probably have the same batch at their stock.

My WiiM ultra has coil noise, and it is my second one. I sent back the first for the same issue. I have narrowed it down to power supply coils and I will attempt a fix on mine because I like it and I like to tinker. But yes it is normal and very common in cheap electronics.

I got a replacement for my Ultra making coil noise. The new one is the same. Not worth swapping them as many of them suffer this issue. Many people just can't hear it.

If tree falls in a forest and nobody is around, does it make a sound? ;)

How can you say in one breath that many Ultras suffer this issue and at the same time say many people can’t hear it? Might it be that those who don’t hear it because there isn’t an issue with their Ultra?

This is a thread about the WiiM Amp Pro, not the WiiM Ultra.

I have an Amp Pro and an Ultra (one from the very first production batch). And neither of them suffers from coil whining. The PSUs of the WiiM Ultra and the WiiM Amp Pro certainly have very different requirements.

Who cares which unit it is? It's the same issue.

Easily, because that's just how it is. I have heard it when others have no clue what I'm talking about when it's the same device. So yes, some WiiMs don't have the issue at all while some do and some people can hear those ones while others can't. It's pretty simple really.

How can it be the same issue with totally different power supplies?

If it's pretty simple really, you might be oversimplifying. And that's not going to help anybody.

Totally different power supplies using the same or similar cheap parts. You think every WiiM product has unique parts from the other? Not even close. Going by your comment, you think if 2 totally different companies manufacture a wall wart for their own USB hubs they cannot have the same issue because they are "totally" different power supplies? I don't think so.

So you start with it being a common issue impacting many WiiM Ultras, to some not having the issue while some do but only some people hear it.
I don’t deny some units may have an issue, but you’re making sweeping generalisations about the Ultras in particular that aren’t borne out by evidence in the forum, nor on Reddit apparently…

You don't have a point and you're posting to the wrong sub-forum.

If you were unlucky enough to receive two defective units in a row that's really unfortunate. But it's your own problem, not something that applies to all customers as you seem to imply.

If you receive a defective unit go ahead and claim your legal rights towards the seller. Venting your anger here isn't helpful.
