Wiim Amp switching Wifi on its own

I’ve moved Wiim Amp to another Wifi network than where it was originally connected when I first installed it. For some reason it is switching back to the original Wifi network on its own sometimes. Is it possible to forget the pervious Wifi network somehow without factory resetting the whole device?

I think it is little bit suspicious that it even remembers the password for previous Wifi. There isn’t even any option to switch the Wifi network manually so why it saves the password?

May I first ask which steps you took so far to connect the WiiM Amp to the new network?

I moved my phone to the new network, then pressed the volume button for ~5s and added the device as new device in the phone’s app.

I’d like to separate IoT and media devices from other more important devices so it is not nice if one of the media devices doesn’t stay where it should.

Unfortunately, it looks like you already did exactly what you can do about it (short of a factory reset). :(

We've had this discussion before and obviously the answer is still the same. No way to forget previously used networks other than a reset.

Could you work around this restriction by limiting WiiM Amp's access to the IoT SSID in your router(s)?

Did you link to Alexa? It may be using “frustration free setup” and getting your network details from other connected devices - see https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GMPKVYDBR223TRPY

If you have linked it to Amazon, you can try deleting saved passwords in your Amazon account under manage your devices & content / preferences.
I didn’t link Alexa. I find it concerning regarding cybersecurity that it remembers stuff that it shouldn’t.

I don't think it's behaving any different from other computers (except the missing "forget" option) in this respect.

You wouldn't want to hand over any networked device to someone who is not expected to use your network without resetting it first.

By another Wi-Fi networks, do you mean networks from different providers?

Many wifi routers are able to create several wifi networks with different names. Devices in these different networks can’t see or talk to each other. This is handy way to separate IoT devices which rarely get security updates from laptops and workstations that contain important data and often get security updates more frequently

Well it depends how you see it. I find it concerning that it remembers old networks and automatically connects to them. I would assume it stays in the network I have selected during setup and which shows up in the app settings.

There isn’t even any possibility to change the wifi network manually in the app so why does it need to remember the previous wifi?

Thanks.

I do not know the detailed status of your network. However, I have two routers on my home mesh network that can limit the networks (SSIDs) and routers that the WiiM device can connect to. If I allow the WiiM device to mesh network on the router side, it switches the SSID of the WiiM depending on the situation; I believe the router controls the network connection of the WiiM, not the SSID or password stored in the WiiM device.

But I am not an expert, so I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem.

A WiFi SSID is not a network, it's an access point. A network can have any number of access points with same or different names. Each access point can be protected by a key (password) that is used each time it connects. A network is defined by the IP address space assigned by the router and routing of the packages within the network.

As far as I know the WiiM can only be associated with one access point (set initially) but as long as your phone is on same network, not necessarily same access point, the WHA can control the WiiM.

Yes, I have two SSIDs and also two separate networks. SSIDs have different names and passwords. Wiim was originally in first one. Then I moved it to second by steps mentioned earlier.

I also believed that Wiim can only be associated to one SSID but here I am complaining that it is changing between the two SSIDs on its own.

How can you see what network it's connected to? Does it change IP address?
