Since the Apple TV app is now available, I was happy to see the WiiM Home app in the AppStore on Mac! However, it’s only for M1 or higher macs  So I found the WiiM Home Beta app to download and install and it was newer than my old beta version so that made me happy … until it never opens now (I have to Force Quit out of it each time cause it won’t open). Anyone else experience this that has an Intel Mac? Mine is 2018 Mac Mini i7.

WiiM - any chance of supporting Intel Macs for the Mac AppStore version? Thanks.

I think the version in the App Store on Mac is basically a port of the mobile app. I'm afraid there never was and never will be a version that'll work on Intel devices unfortunately, now that the transition to Apple Silicon has been completed.

Maybe I can revert back to the old beta version from Time Machine and see if that’s still workable.

What version of macOS are you running?
The latest release - 15.4.1 - a very troublesome release that broke quite a few things (but got all resolved now except for this). I was surprised how much trouble it created … probably cause I’m still on Intel.

My Mac friends are always looking for an excuse to buy a new machine. This seems like a good one to me as additionally all Intel Macs are now considered vintage by Apple.

I plan to retire this machine at some point as my new Roon Core and hook it up to my TV directly which will have a few advantages. It has 32GB RAM … that and along with an i7 chip should really help manage my large music library in Roon better (less hiccups than my current NUC) 🤞 The problem is finding the time … haha … definitely on my projects list. I was always eyeing the Mac Studio but with the new Mac Mini, I think that’s a better use of my money for my next machine.

I am not having any issues with the WiiM Home app on my 2019 i3 iMac but I don't use the WiiM Home app on it very often.

I’ll go through some maintenance steps with my Mac to see if it fixes the issue before reverting back to an earlier release - good to know you’re not having an issue

Yes those new Minis are the perfect desktop computer for 95% of the people. You can still equip it with the "Pro" variant of the M4 chip which would pretty much obliterate your i7 for intensive tasks. But if you're currently not absolutely pushing the i7 to its limits, sure you could stick with it a little longer - as long as it receives updates :)

The price-performance and performance per watt ratio of these new Apple Silicon machines is yet to be matched by the PC market - 4 years in.

I’m thinking I can safely get another 3 years out of it … which is amazing for a day-to-day computer (though it did cost me an arm and a leg when I bought this thing). It still does everything I throw at it fine … just some hiccups here and there cause it’s not Apple Silicon. Maybe one day I’ll splurge if I can’t help myself … haha … I just dread the upgrade process, especially with Parallels VM for Windows (which I use heavily).
