Wiim Home app for Mac OS

There’s been a beta of such available for a while but it lacks many of the features of the iOS app. See https://www.wiimhome.com/app

Of course, if you have the appropriate MacOS version, you can use the iOS app

I’m not a Mac user but I’d see no point in MacOS supporting iOS apps if they didn’t behave as they would on an iPhone/iPad. If your MacOS version does indeed support iOS apps, give the iOS WiiM Home app a spin and see :)

iOS version works on newer Macs but has limitations ie cannot access music files stored on the Mac.

Guess that’s where you could also use the beta MacOS version which I’d expect could see the local files.

I wonder why the 14th of June beta does not show any music services like Qobuz, Spotify or tuneIn?

The beta desktop versions don’t (yet?) support streaming music services.

Edit: if you’re on a Mac which supports the iOS App Store, download the mobile/tablet version of the WiiM Home app to your Mac and use that instead.

good tip, thnx!

Is the Mac app supposed to link/control music streaming services like the phone apps, or is the idea that you'd play the service from the Mac and AirPlay it to a WiiM receiver?

Unfortunately, the iOS app for mac is unresponsive, although it readily downloads and installs in the app folder.

I am quite sure it is the former option.

Maybe a permissions issue or such like? I’m sure others have got that to work ok, but I’m not a Mac user.

On another note, the Wiim Home beta app for mac os controls my Apple Music library with >1k ripped albums without glitches! That is good news, as Apple Music playback via the remote app has been plagued by initial delays since I moved the library to a newer Mac Mini. Streaming from the Mac Mini to Wiim Pro Plus via Airplay works flawlessly.

Still basically unusable.
The WiiM Home app can do one thing that I was never able to do before:
Control my Apple Music library on a Mac Mini from my Macbook. And it does it better than Apple Music controlled by the remote app.
