WiiM Pro Plus multiple device linking = firmware error

This could be my misunderstanding but I thought the Pro Plus could play the same track across multiple devices...

Setup:
  • WiiM Pro Plus connected by ethernet to home LAN, and RCA out to nearby Denon receiver
  • Dax88 receiver in another room connected by ethernet to the same home LAN, which connects by "Wi-Fi" to WiiM
Both the WiiM Pro Plus and Dax88 show up in the Device list. I can play on each device separately and simultaneously (ie, WiiM playing from Plex to Denon, and the same WiiM playing from Qobuz to Dax88) which works fine. However when I tap the link feature, I receive, "Current version is out of date; Please upgrade your firmware." WiiM firmware is up to date.

Is playing locally via RCA to receiver1 while synchronizing the same track remotely via network to receiver2 a capability this device has? I'm puzzled because I thought this was an inherent feature. I've read about other folks achieving a similar use case by employing multiple WiiM devices, each tethered to their own receiver.

Even if the DAX88 shows up in the WiiM Home app it is not a WiiM device.

Dayton Audio might be using Linkplay technology, but there's no guarantee that its module and firmware are compatible with WiiM devices. If linking works, you are lucky, if it doesn't ... well ... you're out of luck.

You could ask DA why their device cannot be linked with a WiiM Pro Plus but I doubt they will be able to give you a better answer.

Dayton Audio has its own customised Linkplay control app, Hi-Fly.
I installed it on my iPad and it discovered my Wiim devices. So Harkpabst suspicions look correct.
It gave me the option to link my Wiims but I did not test it
It may be an alternative option for you to synch the two

Update
Using the HiFly app I was able to link two Wiims and playback to both as a group.
I suspect the "Current version is out of date; Please upgrade your firmware." message relates to the firmware in the Dax88 so, as already suggested, its a question for Dayton Audio

Thank you harkpabst and jfbuk for your replies and information. Based on your feedback I also tried the HiFly app, and received the same firmware error as from the WiiM app. I will put the question to the folks at Dayton Audio and let you know what I find out.
