WiiM Pro Plus

Amazon Canada has a pre-order page up. It has a release date of August 31, 2023. I pre-ordered and hopefully put it through its paces when I get it.

I do look forward to seeing a version with USB out so that I can use my external DACs, though.
Do you have the link?

Maybe I flubbed up. I'll checky pre-order again because you're right, it is confusing (at least it is a pre-order and can be cancelled easily). I'll report back.

Yeah. I think I was overly excited. Looks like it is a Wiim Pro with remote up for pre-order on amazon.ca. Hopefully when the WiiM Pro PLUS is up, it will be very clear what product is being ordered

Hello everyone. Help me, please, figure it out,I just collected my first set. From some reviews I understand that Wiim Pro works well in conjunction with Geshelli J2. Wiim as a "control panel" and Geshelli J2 as a DAC. The new Wiim is expected with the new AK4493 DAC. Do I understand correctly that now when I buy the Pro Plus version, I no longer need to buy Geshelli with the same DAC? Now it will be twice cheaper in one box?

The main chip used in the DAC tells only a partial truth about how the device works. DACs with the same chipsets are not equal in terms of the outputted audio, they rather just share some characteristics appointed by chips.

That’s the idea behind the Pro Plus - it should remove the need for an external DAC in situations such as yours. Whether it sounds as good as a Pro connected to that particular DAC, only your ears can decide :)

I understand. Thanks for the answer. Judging by your answer, it turns out that the Wiim Pro + Geshelli J2 combination can play much better than Wiim pro plus? Ideally, it would be to listen and understand the difference, but in my case this is not realistic (((We'll have to wait for expert reviews.

It does not work like that. First of all, it's not clear what "play much better" means. You have to compare yourself to choose which one suits you better.

As a result, I think you are right. I don't think you can hear the difference between the two. If you don't need XLR output, Pro+ 1 has it all.

Edit: Forgive me if I was rude.

Thanks to all who answered. I assembled my set a few days ago: Linton + Magnat MA900. I also bought a turntable, but this is not related to the topic. So far, I'm listening to music via Spotify on a Samsung S22 connected to the amplifier via bluetooth with the AptX codec (not HD). And I just want to raise the sound quality to the maximum for not a lot of money as much as possible in comparison with the stock bluetooth. I raise that in the topic of music there is no limit in money. I'll be waiting for Pro Plus.

No, I didn’t mean that - I was merely saying only you can judge. Maybe the Wiim Pro Plus would sound better to you as well as having the advantages of a one box solution at half the cost of the alternative :)

While a Wiim device will provide an excellent gateway to hi res music services, I wouldn’t expect to hear a night and day difference using a lossy service like Spotify

and bluetooth in addition(?)

I think you meant to say that the difference in listening to Spotify via bluetooth will be worse than day and night compared to Wiim Pro which plays music in much better quality?

I think what I meant to say is that you can’t expect equipment to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear - Spotify (and Bluetooth) both use lossy compression codecs that won’t exploit all that a device such as a WiiM can offer. On the flip side, you may be quite happy with a sow’s ear, it’s all subjective, and Spotify does have a lot of fans particularly for its UI and curation :)

Cheers

Spotify has the highest audio quality of 320Kbps. The same is true for using the WiiM Pro. In other words, it's hard to hear the difference between Bluetooth and WiiM on Spotify.
