I know this might be to much to ask from WiiM.

A lot of us have old smartphones with in our drawers which we would like to turn into WiiM Streaming clients with a simple software installation.

I am aware that doing this would eat into your own sales of the WiiM Mini device as that would fulfill most of the features that one would buy a Mini for.

But it would also make the WiiM ecosystem much more versatile and popular if people can use the WiiM Home App to stream to old smartphones using e.g. Spotify Connect. Maybe release it as a paid app (for 25 USD?) for android and iOS?

Please think about it. But I understand if you do not follow such an approach.

From your description I don't quite understand what would be the streaming target here. The old smartphone itself? Are you asking for a purely software based player application? No WiiM hardware? How does Spotify Connect fit in here?

The current WiiM Home app supports Android from version 7.0 on, but it's not primarily a player app ...

Yes, use the old smartphone as Streaming Client for a new Smartphone mit WiiM Home App. The old smartphone should be detected by the new smartphones Home App as a WiiM-device. So you can use it as a player like the Wiim Mini. Without WiiM Hardware.

IF (big IF) they ever get DLNA cast to work then the capability would already be there?
