Wiim Ultra bluetooth output forces Room to change sample rate

Hello,

has anybody noticed that when the Wiim Ultra output is set to Bluetooth, it forces Room to do sample rate conversion to 48khz?

If another output is selected, like headphones (for example), the same music is played up to 192Khz and 24 bit.

Is this a software bug, since the sample rate conversion should be done inside the Ultra and not forced to Room?

Thank you,
Pedro

Roon is probably determining the capabilities of the endpoint at point of transmission so only sends what it knows it can deliver.

Hello,

I understand your point. But my question is if it should be Roon or the WiiM doing the rate conversion. It seems the Roon implementation is done in a way that Roon takes care of the sample rate and word length conversion. I was not aware of it. I thought the Wiim would do it.

I tried other outputs, SPDIF and coaxial, and if I force the output signal (sample rate and word length) to something different to what the music stream is, then Roon automatically converts it. So, I assume that's the way Wiim and Roon decide to implement it. Maybe the precision is higher.

But the Wiim hardware could do it too.

Thank you!

I dare say similar happens when you use a streaming service - it will only send a resolution it knows the end device can support rather than assuming the endpoint has the capability to downsample a full resolution file.

Roon does what it thinks best.
Plenty of other examples around where roon users have posted numerous sample rate conversions happening 'cos roon wants to.

Ok. So, it is clearly as I am experiencing. Good.

I would expect the implementation to have been decided between the hardware (Wiim) and the software (Roon) companies. Whatever gives the most accurate final signal.

Interesting little piece of kit, this Ultra.
