Wiim Ultra, my best DLNA streamer

All CDs are CDA format.
You are right! Thanks. Compared again, the unplayable CD has the mark “CD mit Trackpunkten“. What make the difference to the WiiM Ultra?
On/off several times the Ultra/App/Player, it works for both kind of CDs.

What's really neat with the LMS CD-play plugin is that the cd tracks can be added to a queued playlist & can be edited, reordered, etc. Difficult to achieve, if at all, using a cd remote 😁

Why not just play flac files if you don't want to play a CD as the ancient ones did. Seems a parlor trick of limited utility to me but hey that's great.

Can't be bothered with all that ripping and storage 😁. Sometimes the ritual of opening the case, placing disc in the player is quite therapeutically slow, instead of zipping through lots of files 😊. There's something about the permanence of a physical object which is quite pleasing.

Sure. I have 2 CD players. But when I play a physical CD I play a physical CD. Not files. When I do that I don't need phone or computer. Old school.

Hi, quite interesting, could you please indicate your Blu-Ray player to me ? In order to archive this desired solution, I was looking into Sony S6700 and Panasonic BDP185, thus I couldn't get confirmation on CD streaming over DLNA with this devices.

My Sony BDP-S6700 works, it also supports SACD, but its operating system a bit slow.

Thank you for your information, sir.
Yes, I have seen that review. Many pros for this device (DLNA, SACD, Blu-Ray, Pricepoint) - but as indicated - you are the first to confirm the media server functionality.
With OS you mean the DLNA menue and loading / serving files inside the network or, just the menu in general?
ATM, I have decided to add an ext. CD drive to my audio server and send audio data via DLNA, perhaps the S6700 will pass below the 3 digit pricepoint once, which could be tempting then ;-)
I need to admit, that playing with CD's is just an optional (and rather romantic) feature and appeals more to my past than to my reality. ;-)

Just do batch ripping, say 5 albums a day whilst you're on your PC.

Unclear what your mean, but the CD and USB of Sony BDP-S6700 are accessible by WiiM ULTRA via Home media sharing menu. The WiiM ultra can then stream the madia files on the CD and USB, of couse the Sony BDP-S6700 must be already started up.

I remember the times when people borrowed "Media" in public libraries. The stickers with the hint that it is not allowed to copy were bigger than the cases.
And of course....a lot of human beings are weak characters 😉
In the UK it wasn't even legal to rip your own CDs until 2014.

Thank you for your answer. I allow myself to explain and extend:

I was referring to the DLNA structural logic:
- a DLNA environment is defined by roles/functionalities: Renderer, Controller and Server. The device classes in short (DM = Digital Media) : DMR, DMC, DMS
- Some functions can be executed in the same device, but often DLNA software limits functionality, which means your device could be DMR (renderer /player) but not DMS (library/server) as defined by software restrictions (... just lacking the server side part).
- Your specific Sony S6700 DLNA system seems to point to the WIIM ULTRA as DMR/DMC renderer / controller (could perhaps be controlled also by BubbleUPNP on your phone) and the S6700 as a DMS (DLNA server /source/library). Afaik, WIIM software architecture stills tempers with DLNA cast for Beta trials.
- As defined by Sony in the original manual, the S6700 could also be used as DNR/DMC device. DMS functionality is not noted. Could be that it was added per firmware update.
- Which means as per definition its DNLA software now exercises all DLNA device classes. That is quite untypical for a digital player at this price point. And very seldomly advertised as key feature because simply not many people care about DLNA functionalities.

I was wondering if the "slow operating system" was referring to the device in general - or just to the DLNA software (functionality over the network)?

Does Sony DLNA implementation allow "bitperfect streaming" ?

If you have read all that, pls be so gentle and give us your impression about the noise level of the drive. ;-)
Thanks in advance , Tom

The S6700 acts as DMS; 24bit/196kHz .flac file streamed. The S6700 Shares the content of the loaded CD and the content of connected usb disk.
