I just bought the WiiM Ultra and am somewhat disappointed. One thing is it doesnt start playing when I turn it on and I have to manually select what I want to play.
The other and probably the reason Ill return it next week, everytime I turn it on, I have to press "1" (the preset) 3!!!! times for it to start playing the underlying configuration, in this case -> radio. Why do I have to press the preset 3 times?

Mine only requires one press from standby, or two presses if you are selecting a preset number from 5 - 8.

From standby always more than one time, often even 6 or 7 times.
So most of the time I use the app.

Do you unplug the power cable every time?

If so, the remote’s Bluetooth connection will be lost, which may take some time to reconnect. Normally, pressing the preset button once will start playback.

Yes, its in an office, so every powerstrip is being turned off when leaving and I cant bother my sometimes changing employees with something that trivial yet annoying to randomly press the button until it turns on. Even 30 year old tuners are capable of this.

After power on and booting has finished, you may have to press a button on the remote to make it reconnect (Bluetooth). After a few seconds you can press the Preset you want. The remote will stay connected as long as the power to the WiiM is not turned off and will only require one press.

I have just tested this and most of the time the Preset work from the remote at the first press after the Ultra has booted and is in standby mode.

No, but hgo58 and Wiimer gave the solution.
So it should only take two presses after the device has finished booting, or more if you don't wait for the remote to pair, which typically takes around 8 seconds from first pressing a button on the remote.

Your post #3 does say from standby, so it certainly shouldn't take more than one press, and definitely not 6 or 7 times, as that would suggest a fault with your remote, or lack of charge in the battery.

Unfortunately, since the WiiM Remote uses Bluetooth, There are also disadvantages.

In the morning, you can press the preset button on the Ultra’s screen. Swipe left on the playback screen to bring up the preset menu.

Also, you might want to keep a portable battery at your office. It’s incredibly useful.
🙂

I said from standby, as I thought it was standby, but it happens after power on in the morning and the display shows a clock.

That 30 year old tuner likely only had 1-2 solid-state circuits inside, not being a sophhisticated Audio Computer like the WiiM Ultra.
And, no doubt a 30 year younger you wouldn't let some rando unplug that tuner and stereo stack every night.

Perhaps a 30 year tuner will remember presets when unplugged but my 18 year old Sony XDR-F1HD tuner will not. ☹️

However my 46 year old Onkyo tuner will remember the last station it was on if unplugged. 🤣

Just throwing out another idea, if this is in an office and you're just trying to play the same radio station every time, you could set up an alarm so that every day or every M-F at a certain time it starts playing that radio station automatically. You can set any duration and volume you want.

It would be good though if you could set a smart preset to play when the unit starts up - that way you could control volume, content, eq, output etc
