WiiM Vibelink Amp

Article says "WiiM is positioning the Vibelink Amp as the ideal companion for its Mini, Pro, and Ultra models." If just for Ultra, why does it have a volume control? Until we see the back, hard to know how much overlap there is.
I’d guess if you want the Ultra to have bit perfect output into a power amp, you’d surely want that power amp to have a volume control.

Anyway, this is all idle speculation till WiiM release the spec…

Again, why if the Ultra already does that? I guess what you’re after might be something like a marriage of the Amp Pro and Ultra that was mooted a year ago at the Munich hifi show. I don’t think vibelink is that.
I currently have an ultra and use it's phono stage, i run it through an AVR but I've been looking for a dedicated amp for awhile and have been looking at the technics g700m2.

To me, this looks like Amp Pro with the streaming removed and upgrades made to the amplifer section (100W vs 60W in the Amp Pro). Plays nice with Ultra and gives WiiM a volume-controlled amp to pair with Mini and Pro.

An 100 W/ch integrated amplifier with digital and analog inputs. With an ultra you get sub out and HDMI sound. Not a bad proposition at all.

Okay, I'll say it. I don't like the colour.

Obviously, there may be options, and that'll be interesting. But if you're going to go to the trouble of making it look like an Ultra, you really need that black front.

Having had a think about it for about an hour, unless news comes of some feature I've not thought of, this is already a pass for me. And I genuinely don't get it. What Ultra users really needed was a basic, but great-performing two-channel power amp. I'm not sure anyone was asking for this. In all of the "What do you want WiiM to do next" threads, I don't remember seeing anything like this mentioned, though I may have missed something.

If you already have an Ultra, you don't need anything other than the power amp stage, meaning you're paying for a whole lot of stuff you don't need. If you're in the market for a new set-up, why would you want to buy two units where there's a great deal of duplication over the pair?

And if it's aimed at people with just a basic streamer, why make it look like the Ultra?

Interesting news in deed! Wonder if it will be worth the upgrade from my current Fosi V3 Mono's - Wiim Ultra setup, or if that will even be an upgrade. Am running 48V/10A psu for my two V3's and have swapped opamps in both (2 in each) for muses02. I guess I have more power with my current V3-setup and am quite happy with the sound (of the muses02). What other benefits might the Vibelink offer? 🤔

To be honest, I struggle a bit to see why one would choose the WiiM Ultra+Vibelink Amp over just the WiiM Amp Pro.

I guess it would be mainly for the screen + marginally more power (it seems around +2 or +3dB higher theoretical max SPL).

The drawback is slightly more clutter, slightly more complicated setup, and a significantly higher total price.

Some would say modularity is a benefit for e.g. serviceability (and to facilitate "upgrades"), but for me well-designed all-in-one solutions more than make up for that with improved ease of use.

Am I perhaps missing some other potential benefits of the Ultra+Vibelink Amp setup? Thanks!

Why would it duplicate the preamp functionality of the Ultra if it’s meant to pair with it? A pure 2.0 amp looks more likely to me.
If it's also intended as to complement the likes of the Pro, a better DAC (which it may or may not have) would be of value.

For me, I wanted just a power amp. I'd have been happy with a power amp with a switch, so you have the option to use either the analogue volume on the amp or the digital volume on the Ultra.

So what's the digital stage for? Will you be able to by-pass it?

So let's say this does all the digital stage stuff that the Ultra does, and you're going to take the digital out from the Ultra into this. Then your Ultra has become...erm...a WiiM Mini with a screen.

One thing's for sure, though. If it is just that, we no longer have any need for discussion about the Ultra having balanced outs. ;)

Bit perfect digital output from the Ultra perhaps?

Last time I checked the Mini didn't have phono nor HDMI input, nor some of the other features the Ultra has ;)
