Good company. I bought a Polyvection DAC32 from them a few years ago. I see that they now sell a newer version of it, so it might suit @Burnside as a fuss free "Lyrion in a Box" solution. They also do a DIGI32 which has digital, rather than phono, outputs...
It's not whatya got, it's whatya do with it.
It's also worth noting that the WiiM sub is not aimed primarily at wham bam movie track use. It's designed for listening to music.
Shellac for 78s. Acetate discs were used for testing, radio broadcasts, and creating masters. They're quite fragile and don't survive more than a few playings.
