I observe the same, mode D.
When the HDMI cable is connected, the TV always switches to HDMI ARC, even though my Ultra remains in standby (correct behavior). I have to disconnect the HDMI cable for the audio to work through the TV speakers.
Wiim Ultra and LG C2 TV.
I was also investigating in this area and came across these attenuators with good measurement, did not try it myself

I second that, my Ultra with LG TV does not behave according to the description here...
I'm also using the Ultra with a TV. My ideal setup would be a switch that would either:
* turn on the Ultra when the TV is turned on, control the volume with TV remote, turn off the Ultra with the TV (this is currently working), or
* turn on the Ultra only with Wiim remote - when the TV is...
Hm.
For me, when the "Automatically output audio to WiiM when TV is on" is switched off, the Wiim still turns on from standby and starts to play TV audio when TV is switched on. I think this should not be the case. On the other hand, the TV is still configured to HDMI ARC (instead of speaker)...
Same for me, with my LG C2.
When the switch is off, the Ultra is still turned on when TV is turned on. As a bonus, the Ultra does not turn off when the TV is turned off, but maybe this is expected in this case.
FWIW the information about Ultra standby power usage is no longer available here: https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support/solutions/articles/72000637017-wiim-devices-power-consumption-in-standby-mode/
