Tidal A few days at Tidal and my nerves are quite frayed ...

I have now started a free trial subscription with Tidal and already deeply regret it ...

In just a few days, I've already experienced more bugs than I've had with Spotify in all those years ...

I use Tidal on a desktop PC with the Windows 10 app and the playback device is a Wiim Amp Pro.

When Tidal content is played via the LAN/W-LAN connection, the current song is not highlighted in color in the track list, so it is not possible to see (directly in the list) what is currently playing. When playing via the Amp Pro's line-in connection (Realtek onboard sound), however, the whole thing works.

It has also happened several times that Tidal Connect simply disappeared from the sound output (bottom right), which could then only be remedied by restarting the computer ...

Initially, the volume control in the app was grayed out (inactive), no matter what I had activated/deactivated in the settings under sound output. At the moment, at least that works ...

If you jump back and forth between and within tracks during playback via LAN/W-LAN, there are often significant delays before the sound output starts again.

Clearing the cache and reinstalling did not bring any real change ...

Does anyone know these errors and has any solutions?

They usually update the app every fortnight or so.

Changing (and checking which variant works better) the "Preferred DNS" and" IP V6" in the WiiM Home app (one at a time) is also worth a try. The Tidal desktop app (as well as the smartphone app) is more or less just a smart remote, telling the WiiM Amp Pro what to retrieve from Tidal's servers.

I hope this free Trial is not going to ruin you completely.

I would have to look into this a little more closely first, I have no real access to such things.

I've also contacted Tidal support now, so let's see if they can tell me something about it.

Yes you do
What I wanted to say is that my information technology skills are, to put it mildly, a little limited and I am therefore always extremely careful when changing any settings ...

However, I have now tried all possible combinations under network status, but there were no recognizable changes.

The support has already contacted me and I will report back on how it turned out, in case others have or will have similar problems.

Unfortunately, I cannot (yet) present a solution. I have forwarded this to Tidal and WiiM, but they still seem to be puzzling over it. Let's see if anything will happen. I'll give it some time, otherwise I'll have to look around for another provider.

Sounds like a Win10 & a Tidal
problem...

Do you think Windows 11 could solve the problem?

Then I'd be in luck, because I'm currently waiting for the parts to build up a new computer, which will then run Windows 11. 😉

Any computer running Windows 10 should be perfectly capable of running Windows 11.
Microsoft even scaled back the security requirements to be able to install W11 (although they've always been relatively easy to bypass)

Who knows. If you're using the win wiim app, it's not as developed as the android version. Have you tried the android app? (as a comparison test)

The computer I'm currently using is ancient, much more than 10 years old (got it as a temporary solution, because the previous one died). There is nothing to want in terms of TPM 2.0. But ultimately it doesn't matter, I wanted to build a new one this year anyway, among other things, because the updates for windows 10 are about to expire.

Tpm 2.0 requirement can be bypassed too if that's what you mean.

I'm running dual boot Windows 11 and the latest macOS version 15.3.1 on a 2012 MacBook Pro at work. Age is just a number. 😉

I've often had the same thought, all the energy goes into the smartphone apps and everyone who prefers to use the desktop app has to make sacrifices ...

There are no problems with the android app, as you don't have to establish a connection via a sound output window beforehand. But at home, I prefer to use the desktop app in most cases.

Of course, there would also be the option, not to use the Ethernet/Wifi connection at all.
I recently bought an adapter (S.M.S.L PO100) to connect the PC to the optical input via USB and it sounds as good as via the Ethernet connection.

But you just think, it should actually work ...!;)

Are we still talking about the Tidal app for Windows and for Android?

I don't see no difference there.

Before I can play something via Tidal connect in the Windows desktop app, I first have to connect in the sound output window (but this is not possible, if the entry is not available).

When I play Tidal content via the Wiim Home App, the WiFi connection is already there and I just have to tap a song to start it.

By the way, I just had a notification in the Windows app, that the app has been updated, maybe the solution is already there!? We will see ...

It's because the WiiM device is the Tidal Connect player and the WiiM Home App is just a controller for the WiiM device.

The Tidal Windows App is the main Player that also allows redirect to other players (Connect or Chromecast).

The "Sound Output" is actually a bad name for the menu. It's not a output from the PC, except the first entries, but a redirection of the Tidal connect to another device. And the Tidal app then become just a controller for the playing. You can close the PC and continue the control from the WiiM Home App.

If the WiiM entry is not in the list it may be because your PC is on a different sub-network from the WiiM.

The problem is, sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not, but maybe the update, that just popped up in the Windows app, brought the solution already.

Is the PC and WiiM connected via WiFi and do you have multiple access points (a Mesh Network)?
