A WiiM with a USB C output.

Toslink can not fully resolve 192khz. Many streamer platforms have tracks that produce 192khz which means the mini will come up short.
It can provide a bandwidth sufficient for spdif stream with 192 kHz audio. And it's not always guaranteed.

I second the ideal of a usb c output. I be a nice option to have with the next model.

After some investigation, I've learned that my issue was with the Toslink mini adaptor. When I removed it and used a different DAC, I was getting 192khz. However, I still can hear some static at a very low volume but, it no longer impacts the sound.

I would definitely go for a WiiM streamer pro that had no DAC, and just had power, ethernet, USB-C out, coax, and toslink. Perhaps Bluetooth too, but allow that to be toggled off.

Doesn't the Ultra have a USB out? Wouldn't this work with some kind of a-c adaptor?

At substantially greater cost than is warranted. One assumes @richeney was thinking of something akin to the FiiO SR11. I'd certainly welcome such a box from WiiM.

OP: Get a WiiM Amp, a WiiM Amp Pro or a WiiM Ultra, all with USB digital out...

Those ports are USB-A (larger, physically more reliable). Use an inexpensive USB-A to USB-c adapter.

USBc is asynchronous, other types of connection are not. So usbc has in theory better quality.

Precisely. However… to hear the benefit one needs to have a DAC with a well isolated USB port and very precise clocks.

For Audio any USB version 2 or 3 support up to 32 bit / 768 kHz (class 2 audio) So in this case USB-C is just a matter of what cable is used.

USB Audio Class 2 standard (2009)

USB Audio Class 2 supports 32 bit and all common sample rates > 96 kHz
Class 2 uses High Speed (480 MHz). This requires USB 2 or 3.
As the data rate of High Speed is 40 X Full speed, recording a 60 channel using 24 bits at 96 kHz (132 Mbit/s) is not a problem.

Using High Speed USB for playback there are no limits in resolution.
