Ability to edit my own posts

To be honest, I've always had doubts about this thread. Even before becoming a curator, I could edit my past posts. There was no one-hour restriction. (I think evidence of this probably still exists somewhere.)

Is there a rank where the restriction is lifted for standard members who aren't moderators or curators?🤔
The inability to edit posts after an hour for non mod/curators was removed after a spate of older, sometimes dormant posts were edited by spammers inserting suspicious URLs. I guess it's up to @RyanWithWiiM to decide which way this goes but I'd guess it'll be an all or nothing decision without the hassle of a new "rank" and the management of that. We seem to have got on ok for a year with the current rules so personally I'd leave things as they are

I’m all for leaving it as it is now.

The time limit for editing posts is not unusual on forums, and many others allow less time to edit posts.
One of the forums that I’m a member of allows you just 15 minutes to edit a post before it is locked, and another forum allows you 30 minutes.

Another forum offers you unlimited time for editing, plus a few other perks if you are a forum supporter.

Does that mean this restriction didn't exist 1 year ago?

I'm not asking for the restriction to be lifted. 🙂
When this thread was first created, I wasn't a curator yet, but I remember being able to edit my own past posts.
I was just wondering about that..

I don't think there was a restriction a year ago otherwise the spammers wouldn't have been able to edit older dormant posts
It must have started in January 2025, when this thread started 🙂. You could often spot which posts were going to be edited by spammers since the original posts added to a dormant thread were generally gibberish which made no sense and were unrelated to the original thread 😂

Must be the haircut then 😂. I couldn't edit my posts after an hour at the end of January 2025.
If so, no problem 😂

I'm concerned that there might be a bug in the forum or an error in the account settings, causing this restriction to be inactive for some accounts..

You were a curator in March 2025.

That would probably be before sometime in January 25 when the change was made.
No. As I wrote in #46, I posted this thread on March 3rd and edited it on March 5th.

Ok, so I made a few changes that will allow people who have been contributing to the community for a while to be able to edit their posts for 5 days. This isn't connected with the Community Curator role, which has additional permissions. We can future segment permissions as well if desired, giving certain permissions only to active members, but for now we'll keep it simple.
