Airplay 2 : Wiim Pro Plus vs Wiim Amp

Hello,

I have a Wiim Pro Plus with a stereo amplifier and i want to simplify my system with just a Wiim Amp.
I only use Airplay with my iPhone or my Mac for streaming music.

Do you know is the Wiim amp DAC is better or not than the pro plus ?

Thank you :)

The amp has an ESS 9018 K2M, whereas the Pro Plus an AKM 4493SEQ. It’s not just about the DAC, it’s the clock circuitry too. IMO, there isn’t much between the DACs, and I think the amplifier differences may be more significant. Remember that all integrated designs represent compromises. I’d recommend buying the amp to compare and send it back if you don’t think it represents an improvement for you.

In general, DAC's S/N and dynamic range are much higher than amplifier except a few amplifiers. So, DAC chip is not the limiting factor. Amplifier limits overall performance. If I were you, I will get a better quality amplifier than WiiM Amp and use it with WiiM Pro Plus.

Thanks again.

Yes, i will test the amp and compare it to my actual system.
And i will maybe wait for the wiim amp pro version...

I only use Airplay
wiim amp pro
Unfortunately like the Ultra, the Amp Pro has no airplay support.

Both the Wiim Amp and the Pro Plus have been tested at audiosciencereview so there are numbers to compare. But I agree with the other replies: real world difference between Dacs are small. The Amp is great though if the amplifying power is enough for your situation.

Oh ?

So the wiim amp supports airplay but not the future wiim amp pro?

If this is the case I don't wait any longer to do the test of the wiim amp.

This may be of interest if you really want airplay and have one of the necessary platforms

The whole family uses iPhones in the living room to stream music to wiim pro plus.

My goal is to have just one device with my Kef speakers in the living room and I thought the Wiim Amp Pro could do that.

Hide the plus (or even a mini) behind the amp...?? ;)

So i will go to the Wiim amp classic...

But if Wiim amp pro can't have Apple airplay, is there no risk that Apple airplay will be suppress of the Wiim amp classic ?

"No risk" is a rather strong term. ;) Let me put it like this: There's no precedence so far for something similar happening with other devices.

The WiiM Amp has been certifies by Apple for AirPlay 2 and that's all that is needed. I don't think that Apple can or at least ever attempted to revoke AirPlay certification. So, you're as safe as you can be. No 100% guarantee, like with everything in life.

Where and when Apple has "certified" the WiiM Amp for AirPlay?

No manufacturer is allowed to sell devices supporting AirPlay without Apple's certification. The shear fact that it's on the market is the proof.

I was waiting for the AMP Pro to use my iPhone on this amp but i will probably stay on the Amp for my next buy...

Sorry, but I am not so sure about it…
I think that it was implemented through some third party software package, and this is exactly the reason why Apple stopped it.
Just my humble opinion..,

If that were the case, then surely they would have been forced to disable it on the other WiiM devices as well.

This is not the case. How did you get to that impression?

Are you mixing this up with AurPlay casting from WiiM devices, which has been withdrawn?

Edit: Here is Apple's official documentation on how the certification program works:

Pretty much everything else is covered by their Q&A section:
