Hello

Has anyone here already received firmware version 8.2.812331 for the WiiM Amp Ultra
and had a chance to test it? (maybe beta)

I was provided with this firmware by WiiM support to resolve a Qobuz playback issue.
(Of course, this didn’t solve the problem; it’s now known that it was a Qobuz issue)

nevertheless....

A new feature in this firmware is that the play-screen can now be switched off for the respective input!
This is very positive, but unfortunately, when the screen is switched off
e.g. when the TV is in HDMI ARC mode and the TV is switched off, the WiiM Amp Ultra screen then
does not display the clock’s standby mode! It keeps the display off...

I find this very unusual and not necessarily logical.
What is your opinion on this?

Furthermore, something has changed in HDMI mode.
This concerns ‘Use HDMI Audio Only in HDMI Mode’
as well as ‘Auto-sensing of HDMI’.

Before the firmware update mentioned above, I had both switches set to ON.
When switching to TV (HDMI), the WiimAmp Ultra would reliably switch to HDMI. That is fine.

Also having the “Use HDMI Audio Only in HDMI Mode” setting set to ON prevented the WiiM from switching when the TV
(METZ Calea43...) was collecting EPG data in standby mode. So not to wake up Wiim Amp Ultra in TV Standby mode.

Previously, even though the TV was in standby, my streaming music would be interrupted because the WiiM Amp Ultra had
received a signal, pulse or whatever from the TV. (According to Metz Support, the CEC HDMI standard was adhered to very strictly and no pulse was sent!?)

WiiM Support response: Prior to the update, the actual function of the “Use HDMI Audio Only in HDMI Mode” switch did not match its description. Before the update, the sole purpose of this switch was to prevent the WiiM device from waking up from standby mode when the TV was switched on.

Now, with the update to firmware 8.2.812331 on the WiiM, the situation is as follows:

even if both switches – “Use HDMI Audio Only in HDMI Mode”
and “Auto-sensing of HDMI” – are set to OFF, the WiiM automatically switches to HDMI. And the unwanted switchover when the TV is in standby mode still occurs.

If I switch both options to ON, the unwanted switchover in standby mode still occurs, but this prevents the desired effect of the intended switchover during TV operation.

Unfortunately, support is unable to resolve or understand that issue.

My question to you: are you familiar with this problem, and is there a solution? ❓

Many thanks, and I look forward to an open discussion to resolve the issue.

Kind regards, Oliver

It's a little difficult to understand why your TV in standby will interrupt the WiiM. The TV must not show it's present on HDMI ARC CEC, unless it has active audio output.

I have the following settings, as I prefer to have full manual control of ARC.

What is your settings?

I would expect auto-sensing to be on and the rest to be off.

I like the automatic switch to hdmi if I use the TV during watching.

Both switch positions are tried, both have the same effect, automatically switching AND unfortunately interrupting my music steam.... don't understand it.

This is the effect since the firmware mentioned above.

I also didn't understand, if I use these both switch:
The second is override the first!
So why is the second one needing for?
If I switching off the first one, it should have the same effect as if I have both on....?

Some bugs in the App and firmware I assume ....

The most problematic point is that the support has not a clue 🤔

That statement is contradicting. You want it to switch automatically but only if the WiiM is in standby?

Where did you get that from? Why would the WiiM be on standby?
I'm just trying to understand your issue. ;)

I have tested the current implementation on the Ultra and it looks like the auto-sensing is still on, even when disabled.

With all HDMI settings off I would expect the WiiM to go out of standby and select HDMI input, when the TV is turning on. If the WiiM is however already playing I would not expect a switch to HDMI, as auto-sensing is off. And the TV should stay on internal speakers while the WiiM is continuing playing the original source.

Is that the behaviour you are asking for?

This is behaving as intended as I can see it. This is just not a logical behaviour and it was introduced by @WiiM Team to try to satisfy some user requirements to never switch away from the HDMI ARC on the TV, even in the case the WiiM switched to another input. If you turn both on, the TV will switch back to its internal speakers when you change input on the WiiM. With the last option off, the TV will stay on ARC output.

Thank you 😊

Yes, same with me.

Yes, correct is that the WiiM starts with HDMI input. That is what I want.

No, I like that my is TV automatically switching to hdmi, every time I start watching a TV program.
Unfortunately the WiiM is switching into hdmi mode even the TV is in standby! So my music from any other sources is interrupted.
Nobody knows at the moment why the WiiM hdmi is reacting of the EPG data collection process during the TV is in standby.
Neither the support of Metz TV has a clue...they say, that the metz manufacturer uses the exact CEC hdmi norm.

That is the main problem...

Ok. Understood.

This seems to be an issue with the TV. It should of course not react to the WiiM CEC when in standby. I don't think there is anything WiiM can do about that.

If you want your Ultra to switch to HDMI when the TV is turning on, the TV must not look like being on (announced via HDMI CEC) when it is not. The WiiM device cannot see the difference.

I don't think anything have changed in the WiiM HDMI implementation, as long as you disable the last two HDMI settings.

Edit:

Doing a little investigation I see that the Metz Calea 43 TV turning on from standby while collecting EPG data is a known issue. According to user reports and Metz support, the TV may briefly activate its HDMI/CEC interface during EPG data collection, even though it should remain in standby. This behavior is related to the TV's CEC (HDMI control) and EPG settings. It's is recommended to resolved the issue by disabling the EPG function entirely in the TV settings, which stops the TV from collecting EPG data and prevents the unwanted wake-up.

Could you please tell me about the sources you found that?
I'm in contact with a Metz support technician. But at the last talk with him, he told me, it is for sure that Metz TV didn't send a hdmi signal if the EPG starts.... but obviously it does.

To solve a problem with deactivate a function that user like to use is not really a solution ... I will point that to Metz again....

Nevertheless, some bugs are in WiiM App or FW...

Have you had looked the new feature, switching off the display during using a certain input source?
Would you like it as it is, keep the display off after going to standby, or would it be better to go in the usual standby display mode?
