That's the ultra/vibelink combo?I’d rather agree with the assessment of @Mr Ee and others that they are almost indistinguishable

Maybe Randy gets more affiliate commission from the ultra/vibelink combo…
Yes indeed,, I'm just wondering what differences, dynamics , soundstage etc,,Most of the potential for sound lies in the room acoustics, the setup, the speakers, and the EQ. If all of that is optimized, I'd consider whether the Amp Ultra is good enough or whether I should go with Ultra/Vibelink.
I’d refer back to @Mr Ee’s link above where, amongst other things, he says “Obviously just my experience / observation, but I cannot tell the ultra (optical) -> vibelink and amp ultra apart at all.” I believe that’s also the experience of others, me included, who have heard both.Yes indeed,, I'm just wondering what differences, dynamics , soundstage etc,,![]()
Mmm! Interesting that is, can't tell ANY differences...I’d refer back to @Mr Ee’s link above where, amongst other things, he says “Obviously just my experience / observation, but I cannot tell the ultra (optical) -> vibelink and amp ultra apart at all.” I believe that’s also the experience of others, me included, who have heard both.
So if you want the phono input and headphone output of the Ultra, go for the Ultra/Vibelink combo; if not, go for the Amp Ultra all in one. I think that’s all it boils down to.
Yes, that's a valid point, specially power supply distribution, the more it has to power the more work it has to do.. 2 ice creams are always better than one,,,An old and famous tv spot here in Italy said that: " two is better than one".
Ok, it spokes about ice cream but I think the same for Ultra + Vibelink.
Not only for the phono input but mostly for the 2 separate box and power connection.

Yes I remember it will, here in Ireland I got many a separate unit, all with their own psu built in,,During years 80, 90, and 00 the market spent years to convince everybody that separate machines were better.
Dac separate from CD Player, Pre separate from power amp, also power supply separate from turntables...
So, I don't see how am integrated Amp Ultra could be better than Ultra + Vibelink.
But, just my 2 cents
Yes, always good to have options that you can add or take away in the future, some people buy audio gear and keep it for 15 years.. Good to try other options,,Yes, I'm sure that both options sound very similar if not equal, that's why, the very little price difference makes not appealing the Ultra Amp instead of the Ultra + Vibe.
2 separate box, better heat control, 2 separate alimentations, more flexibility for connections or future upgrade.
And, if you need a CD Plsyer, you still need another machine so the "all in one" factor disappear anyway.
Yes, for sure, good point, you will always have that option, could be a good setup depending on the amp,,But remember with its USB audio out, the Amp Ultra isn’t necessarily a dead end - further down the line you could decide to use it as a streamer/pre-amp into another more powerful amp should you need to.
