Hi, new owner less than a week, using wiim amp ultra with existing wharfdale diamond 9.1 ( originals ) and enjoying the sounds of spotify lossless etc. I have ordered for no good reason other than I can, a set of Q acousic 5020's .. do any of you guys have any other speaker recommendations, for £400 or less ?
I have the option of returning both wiim amp ultra and Q acoustic speakers, but I think the ultra is a keeper and maybe my existing wharfdale 9.1's are actually good enough.
The 5020's arrive tomorrow Saturday 10/1/26 so will update on my impressions compared to the 9.1's

Welcome.
It doesn't matter what other people recommend. It matters that you like what you hear, in your own room. The Wharfdale Diamonds are capable speakers, especially the 9, 10 and 11 series. Speaker placement and size of the room is the biggest factor on what model (size) to pick. Try some brands/models if you can, listen to them for some time, different parts of a day, different listening levels and you will discover something that you like...

all fair points, thank you (y), but there are 1000's of speaker choices so someones 'recommendations' using a similar setup might be a guide to narrow down the search or echo your own choice, after all thats the whole point of the forum surely to share ideas and suggestions.

Around that price I'd look at some of these:
  • KEF Q150 (or Q350)
  • KEF Q1 Meta
  • Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 (or 12.2)
  • Polk Audio R100
  • Klipsch RP-500M II (or RP-600M II)
Many of these have very nice reviews on Erin's Audio Corner YT channel, and you can also find and compare them on spinorama.org.

But if I was shopping for speakers for myself, I'd probably go for Ascilab F6Bs and a sub. Ascilab F6Bs are closer to 700£ a pair, however, so above budget.

there are 1000's of speaker choices
And that's part of the 'problem'.
For there to be so many each must be selling a reasonable quantity.
People will recommend what they own, as they (presumably) necessarily like them.
I really can't agree with @HansD-NL enough (i.e. I totally agree!) - speakers are very personal; I've tried numerous speakers (in stores) that get rave reviews and recommendations that I've known within 30 secs aren't for me.

Good luck with the search!

Since you already ordered the Q Acoustics 5020 they will be the first touchstone for the Diamond 9.1. Looking forward to read your impressions. :)

Personally I'd be surprised if the 5020s didn't clearly better the Diamonds.

i get your comments about personal taste etc, but that applies to almost everything and leaves any personal recommendations and reviews pretty pointless, yet it was reviews and recommendations that lead me to the wiim ultra amp in the first place and i have been very pleasantly surprised at how good it is.
Obviously my speaker choice is my own, but advice and suggestions from others is what makes a good forum community, along with the exchanging of thoughts and ideas.
With the suggestions posted i can go into a decent hifi showroom and short list a few, which is what i need.

Certainly a good approach, and if the saleperson is any good they will take your feedback and suggest alternatives (within what they stock, obviously).
You might well end up walking out with something you'd never even considered. I know I have.
