Ultra as a streamer transport connected via USB to a top notch DAC is an audiophile quality streamer superior to any orher WiiM streamer and compared very favorably to any other brand streamer.

Don't even need any external DAC. The Ultra DAC is just as high end as most standalone DACs. Just don't look as fancy.

I thought the comment about audiophile versions and the replies were taking about audiophile streamers (I.e. LUMIN) so had nothing to do with the audio pro speakers. The new thread title reflects the first off topic comment

For a while I was very interested in those super high end streamers like Lumin/HifiRose/Auralic, so I read reviews, watched youtube videos and read the specs for them.

The more I read the less interesting they seemed, 6000USD streamer using a "mid range" DAC from ESS seemed very wrong, lack of functionality like DSP or Sub out, some had nice features like "Leedh" volume control, and "HiFi" components from Japanese brands etc. but what "magic sause" was there really to justify that price?

Still, I'm curious to test one at some point in my system!

Exactly, that's why I highlighted the off-topic track the thread had taken. Anyhoo, where's the Wiim edition disappeared to outside the USA?

They have appeared on Amazon uk as “currently unavailable” which is normally the first step to them becoming available Anyway, isn’t that off topic for this audiophile thread?

There weren't any comments about Audiophile streamers in that Audio Pro thread though. It was discussing synchronisation of devices.

Going round in circles here. Yeah, sync was being discussed then the off topic comment about audiophile versions and selling their Lumin (which is an audiophile streamer) was made. That’s why I moved the audiophile versions comments into this non-speaker thread

I think that this question helps illustrate perfectly the way in which foo has infiltrated the current audio scene. I feel sorry for those who are dipping their toes into the water for the first time nowadays.
