Hello all,

I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to hifi and understanding the best way to set things up.

I've been using a wIIm Ultra for awhile now, it's been plugged in to my AVR via RCA.

I have just ordered a dedicated integrated amp and speakers that I expect to take delivery of in the next week or two.

The amp is a Technics SU-G700M2, a digital amp and I'm wondering what would be the best way to connect the Ultra to the amp, RCA, Coaxial or Toslink?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Anything is possible. Just try all three alternatives and see what you like best.

I'm not familiar with Technic's "digital" amplification and in how far it is really digital or just a class-D variant.
In the first case I my bets would be on a coax or optical signal-in to be the best choice in order to avoid an unnecessary step of AD conversion.

If you have a stereo/avr setup would be good ideal to have a stereo amp with HT bypass input

Unless the AVR & stereo are totally seperate systems

Hi,
As mentioned earlier, please try everything and choose the sound you prefer.

Based on the Technics SU-G700M2 spec sheet, please note that the Optical input supports up to 96kHz/24bit. The Coaxial input can play back up to 192kHz/24bit.

Additionally, the USB input appears to be usable. You might also want to try the Ultra's USB output.

Enjoy your new amplifier.🙂

Thanks, I will try all inputs and see if there is a noticeable difference

I‘ve done a bit more reading on the Technics digital amplification concept. It will indeed digitize any incoming analogue signals.
Thus using the Ultra‘s DAC and analogue RCA output is pointless. My recommendation is to use one of the digital inputs on your new amp.

That's great, thank you for taking your time to look it up, it's all mumbo-jumbo to me, so coaxial or Toslink would be my best option

Edit: would I need to change any of the ultras seerings or could I just plug it into the amp via the new connection type and continue where I left off?

You will have to set the output that you‘ll be using in the WiiM Home App (WHA). Best wait until you‘ve got it. It ain‘t rocket science and pretty intuitive to set up.

I‘ve just realised that you‘ve already got your Ultra.

These are the settings you‘ll need to make.
