Ultra and TV question

I currently have a dedicated AVR and 5.1 set up, I've today had my dedicated integrated amp and stereo speakers delivered.

I am considering getting rid of the AVR and speakers and just having my new integrated amp and stereo speakers set up instead.

My new amp doesn't have HDMI but my wIIm ultra does.

Would it be easy for me to run my TV through the wIIm ultra into the new amp so I can listen to my TV through the new stereo speakers rather than using the TV speakers.

If so would it be easy for me to set up?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

I've fixed it, I had to set fixed

I've fixed it, I set it to 24/192 and the settings stuck but the amp still displayed 44.1, I then turned on fixed resolution in the wimm amp and the app now displayed 192khz.

Is the higher the number the better?
Not in this case, as you have just upscaled the signal to 24/192. You should not use fixed.

This indicates that it's the source you are playing that is 44.1 kHz. What streaming source did you try?

Don’t set fixed resolution on the WiiM otherwise everything will be upsampled unnecessarily to 24/192 before sending to your amp.

Think of the output resolution as a pipe - setting it large allows the audio stream to flow thru up to the resolution, so if the flow is 16/44.1 or up to 24/192, that’s what will come out at the other end. If you fix the output resolution, everything is “filled out” to that which isn’t necessarily a good thing.

The WiiM app will report the resolution of the incoming audio stream which ideally should pass thru to the output without its “flow rate” being altered.

So basically set it to 24/192, turn fixed resolution off then it will play the highest the source allows?

Perfect, that makes sense now, either way it sounds fantastic. I guess if I used something like Tidal or Qobuz it would would play at the higher resolution as long as the ultra is set to 24/192 with fixed resolution off.
Yeah. Fixed resolution is really only there to deal with external DACs that click or pop between tracks because of sample rate changing. If your external DAC or amp doesn’t suffer from that, then turning on fixed resolution has little if any benefit.

The fixed resolution for SPDIF output should only be used if the external amp/DAC don't support variable resolution or if it has issues with pop/click when the resolution changes.

That's great I appreciate everyone's help, I have a 60 day free trial code for Qobuz so I may give it a go, I hate paying for loads of subscriptions and mainly listen to vinyl, I only pay for YouTube premium as I use YouTube a lot.

If I try Qobuz and notice a big difference I may consider a subscription with them although I've heard Tidal has more choice.

Again tanks everyone for the help.

In that case I think you also have access to Youtube Music, a separate service, app and integrated in the WiiM Home app also.

The high-resolution platforms get the same files from music labels and other distributors.

In my view high-res formats are only logical during (post)production and not as a finished product. After all these years of technical achievements the good old 16bit 44.1/48KHz formats still are more than enough to listen to music. That's why the majority of music is (still) in this format.

Yes I do get YouTube music within the subscription and I do use it via the wIIm app.

To my ears I'm happy with YT music but I may just try the Qobuz 60 day trial as it's free

Be careful to just try the monthly subscription. If you forget to cancel it after the free trial, you’ll only get stung for a month’s cost. Some people have found themselves paying for a non-refundable annual subscription they didn’t want.

Good advice, when ever I do free trials like prime ect I always cancel as soon as I sign up to avoid getting stung
