No. The WiiM Amp supports only PCM; the Amp Pro and Ultra support Dolby digital, but the output is 2ch.

Also Dolby 5.1 beta is planned on roadmap.

If the WiiM Amp gets Wireless Dolby 5.1, that would be amazing! It would make it so much better for surround sound. Does anyone know more about when this feature might come?
The beta was supposed to come with the Ultra update on January 15, but not yet.

Hi Team,

The WiiM Amp supports only PCM audio input and does not support Dolby 5.1 audio. However, both the WiiM Ultra and Amp Pro do support Dolby 5.1, making them ideal for surround audio setups.

Additionally, the wireless Dolby 5.1 audio feature is scheduled for beta release this week. Stay tuned for updates!

I have a problem with my setup. Many TV channels only output sound via Dolby Digital via Bitstream. There is no sound coming from the speakers on my WIIM AMP. When deciding to buy WIIM AMP or WIIM AMP Pro, I compared all the technical data from the official sources. It was not obvious that there was a difference between these two devices when it came to Dolby Digital.

It would be great if the WIIM AMP could also output with Dolby Digital or Dolby 2.1 in the future.

To add: Yes, you can switch the sound output to PCM. Unfortunately, my SAT receiver in PCM produces a sound signal that is far too quiet. This is a fault with the SAT receiver, it is 8 years old and the manufacturer no longer provides updates.

Is this a hardware limitation for WiiM Amp?

I’d guess so - they have different Linkplay SoC modules I believe.
Sad to say, I'm facing a codec issue when playing Amazon Videos that have 5.1 channels. The WiiM Amp doesn't seem to handle it, and no sound comes out of the speakers.

You need a device upstream to convert any multi-channel audio to stereo LPCM. Your TV can do that or the device running the Amazon Video app (if not identical to the TV).

Not talking about dolby digital. Talking about a virtual SS
Every WiiM device before the Ultra and Amp Plus have been documented as supporting only 2-channel PCM (except initially the Amp - feature list corrected per Post #10).
"Virtual Surround Sound is an Output mode in which Stereo Speakers are used to generate reverberations that approximate the speakers that would play the missing Surround Sound channels, given data Input in Multi-Channel format (Surround Sound / Dolby / DTX etc).
Where is the Surround Sound data supposed to come from in order to "Virtualize" that sound??

That’s for them to figure out. It sure is possible. If a 80 dollar smsl amp can. I’m sure they can.
