Bluetooth Stutter

Morning All,

New WiiM Pro owner as of last week. Works flawlessly over Wi-Fi when connected to my Denon amplifier via Line Out and also Optical Out (Coax is a no go as my current connectors don't fit onto the WiiM!) but when connecting to Bluetooth devices - Dali Katch, Sony Headphones and a cheap headband (for use when going to sleep - not a good look!) the sound stutters badly. Have other users had similar problems and were they able to overcome them? The experience varies. Sometimes when the stutter starts, pausing a few seconds allows the sound to buffer and then normal playback is possible. Sometimes it then becomes necessary to repeat the process if the stutter starts again.

The problem occurs whether streaming from LMS or Qobuz via WiiM and happens irrespective of Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. A device reset did partly improve the situation but essentially Bluetooth is unusable which is a shame as that was the main reason for getting the WiiM. I have submitted a ticket to WiiM but wondered if others had similar experiences they could share.

Thanks for reading.

Steve

I had not—thanks for pointing out that I needed to reply to their email (I thought the email was just the standard acknowledgement that they had received my support request and that they would get back to me).

I just sent off the reply.
If you read carefully, that's what the mail actually says, but is usually overlooked because people assume otherwise.

And that's why I mention it from time to time. :)

Hi all, I've just purchased a pair of Sony WH-CH720N Bluetooth headphones, encountered this stuttering issue, then found this thread. If only I'd checked here first.

I've raised an incident through the WiiM Home App: 531687

I have a WiiM Pro with wired ethernet connection, and when I move my headphones out of range of the WiiM I experience the Bluetooth connection breaking up as is normal with any bluetooth device. However, with these Sony headphones when I move back into range I then get a regular trilling/stuttering effect over my audio. I can easily replicate this issue by moving to the furthest points in the house from the WiiM.

One back in range, the only ways I've found to cure it are:
In the WHA, disconnect then reconnect to the headphones
Turn headphones off then on again
From the headphones, pause audio for about 10 seconds (not always successful, nor does it seem to work if paused from within WHA)

As well being triggered by moving out of range, two other scenarios where I've found the issue can occur:
When switching the headphone bluetooth input from my phone to the WiiM (so audio is fine on the phone, but as soon as I switch to WiiM it stutters).
Occasionally the issue occurs when I first turn everything on and try to play from WiiM.

There are no such problems when connecting the WiiM with my old Anker Soundbuds Slim bluetooth earbuds.
There are no problems when the Sony headphones are connected to my Android phone.

I've tried all the usual things like factory reset on the headphones, setting them to prioritise stable connection over sound quality, forgetting then re-pairing, etc. as well as some tips from earlier in this thread about changing audio settings on the WiiM.

Scott.

Sorry Scott, but I think there are issues which WiiM cannot or will not resolve - either way they are saying nothing about it.

This has been a known issue for many many months.

Steve

I entered a support ticket re this issue. Wiim support had me spend hours changing various settings which did nothing to cure the problem. Only after they wasted my time did they say that this was a known issue (even though I had already directed them to this thread).

I pointed out that Bluetooth was an advertised feature of the product—which they denied. I sent them a screenshot from their website which promotes “two way Bluetooth” as a feature. They are now telling me that they have reminded R&D team to prioritize de-bugging this issue. Others should be sure to submit tickets.
