I spent a day trying to figure out why the media server DLNA wasn't working

Noticed that ipv6 and DNS were on, disabled them, and playback from the DLNA catalog started working. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what caused the issues. There is no reason to have these options on by default.

This is certainly too little proof for what you think is a bug. My media server works well with either setting enabled or disabled. In fact, Perferred DNS should not have any influence on DLNA at all.
 
Yes, agree - there is no proof. I just ponder why these defaults? Opt-in would be better.

What server do you use? Do you control playback from wiim or some other app?
 
Synology's limited standard media server. For testing only the media server contained in Windows 10.
