All this is just a game of infinite regression, who attacks who.

The key is the man in the White House who seeks eternity by obtaining markers of his existence on this earth - named as a Nobel peace laureate, naval ships' class named after him, conqueror of other lands, whatever. He is aided in this by a coterie of other misfits, chancers & outright weirdos. All dressed up in the simpleton's call to MAGA. In a complex world where the centre cannot hold, this is a powerful and attractive solution.

Of course this whole farago can go off the rails in either the short or longer term - a strategic miscalculation by some Dr Strangelove who hits the button & nuclear winter ensues, climate change increases exponentially, a city-sized asteroid turns up, or a Riviera-styled resort called Trumpopolis stands half-finished, etc.

We are just bystanders or collateral damage in all this. As always, all things will pass other than the memory of a reality show host with a penchant for bad design and big words was once the President...

(myself, I think it's all just a cheap & nasty video game simulation we are characters in - makes as much sense as any other explanation - otherwise how to explain the popularity of Neil Diamond's chansons )
