I would like to see the alphabetical sort ignore “The” at the start of a band name.
In that way The Beatles would show up under B and not T. It would also mean you wouldn’t have to try and find something in amongst lot of Ts
In my previous app there was an option to ignore The.

What about The The?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. That’s actually a very good request.

I would think that the sorting is defined by the services APIs, so not something that can be fixed by the WiiM Home App. At least not for Tidal, etc.

It's a very reasonable goal in the first place. If and how it can be fixed for different sources shouldn't keep us from asking.

Tidal e.g. does it in their own apps, so much we know for sure.

Do you mean that Tidal don't sort on "The"?

I see all the "The" artists in same place.
Sorry, you're right. I had selected the wrong sort order (last added) and the first couple of entries appeared to be sorted alphabetically, but this was just by chance. 😅

Not very likely, but it happened and I fell for it.

PS:
I still support the idea of doing this to the degree it's possible, preferably as an option.

This would be fine for English but what about other languages then? There is the same kind of articles in front of names in e.g German, Duch, French and Italian, and probably many other languages.

This would require the app to download the entire listing (album/artist/track) before being able to present anything to the user, which is why it's typically performed by the server.

As said in comment #4, this will require that the service API have this kind of sorting option implemented.

Because it's not possible to sort items locally (with the caveat aforementioned)?

Given that no source was mentioned and that it's possible in another app, I would assume they're talking about local content.

The real solution is a separate name tag for sorting. These do exist but have to be supported, of course.

I made it easy for myself. The artist tags, conform to the folder structure.

Al Stewart = A
Beatles, the = B
Joe Bonamassa = J
Who, the = W

The background to this was several years ago that some programs just couldn't cope with the "the".

My samplers (genre and folder “Sampler”), e.g. “Hits of the 70s”, have the artist tag “Hits of the 70s”. A track then has the tag and file name, for example, “Ram Jam - Black Betty”.

That works really well for me. And no program that I use ever puts a spanner in the works again.

You can always find what you want using the search function.

Not sure all bands would be dead grateful if we sorted like that...
Hmm ... I don't think so, and if so, why should I personally care? It's up to me how I build up my collection. Especially as it seems logical to me 😉

The OP don't say what the source is. So good luck getting Tidal or Qobuz to change to another format

I could imagine that this would be a considerable effort. The work should be done by the streaming providers.
I also don't know what specifications the distributors (who forward the music to the provider for publication on the platform) make.
