Oh, this definitely doesn't work well. At poweroff, it pings the 12V trigger and briefly wakes up the amp. On poweron, it wakes up the amp, plays a startup sound and the whole thing takes 20 seconds or so. And you also lose the network standby which should be doable with a lot less than 5W.
The comparison with a gas guzzler isn't apt because 80% of this power is wasted on standby. If the Lamborghini (or, more likely, the Spectre electric) drained a small amount overnight, people would 100% complain. Anyways, this is about being green.
@RyanWithWiim 2W would be acceptable. 5W is a bit much. I know that many Sonos's are the same, but people are complaining about idle power and they also have an amp & speaker to worry about.
