Would you expect that on a pure transport? I wouldn’t expect a sub out on a CD transport for example…
Whether one expects it on a 'pure transport' or not isn't the point, I feel.
The point is, the T-8 is a streamer without a sub out. Yes, it's a digital out rather than analogue, so a sub out is maybe not to be expected in that respect, but then logically you have to simultaniously note that it's a streamer without a DAC.
And the point now becomes that you're relying on something else you own
(something else you have to pay for) outside the T-8 for bass management. As well as replying on something else you own
(something else you have to pay for) to turn the streamed 0s and 1s into analogue sound.
And there are no digital inputs. So you need something else
(a pre-amp, something else you have to pay for) if you want to
listen to anything other than a streamer.
So comparing the Ultra to the T-8 and saying the latter is a 'pure streamer' as if that's a benefit is misleading. It's more accurate to say the T-8 is like the Ultra, except that it lacks a pre-amp, DAC, digital inputs, analogue inputs, and bass management, so is specced far, far short of the Ultra.
And sound-wise the Ultra is transparent to the source, so there's no sonic improvement possible with the T-8.
Put yet another way, if you buy the T-8 over he Ultra you're paying a lot more, and getting less for your money.
Which I believe is the point I made to begin with, only far more succinctly, as I felt all this detail was surlus to requirements, due to being blindingly obvious.
