Features wanted in a Wiim Ultra 2

You must think it’s a big deal or you wouldn’t have changed it. 🙄🤔
Please tell me what I changed. I changed some words that were incorrect because of AutoCorrect, but I didn’t change anything major. Tell me what I changed and why does it matter anyway🙄

I have reverted your changes.

Im sure these things have been mentioned before in 17 pages, but here goes my (current) wishlist for v2:

1. USB audio input
2. Coax digi input
3. Improved phono stage
4. Improved ADC
5. Not for me, but for my kids - Airplay. I understand there's gotta be some thawing of friendships to facilitate that one though lol

That's it for me, cos as it stands it is nigh-on close to perfect otherwise. I've been a LMS user for years and having Squeezelite on this and my Pro has been a big selling point for me, slowly replacing my fleet of RPi devices.

Thanks for getting us back on track gcsa! :)

Very clear improvements to the analog inputs and headphone output...

greater attention paid to the digital output et clock (galvanic isolation, etc)

Two subwoofer outputs...

I imagine that a few years after its design, a new version will benefit from the latest generation of DACs of the same type...

Balanced outputs (6.5mm jack for space optimization)

general care and engineering focused on the audio aspect.
Just serious care with specific skills etc... (not some audiophile fantasy unrelated to the market, which seems to me to concern Wiim)
the primary "audio", not gimmicky, functions of these devices
.

Described like this, it could be a future Ultra with a screen... and a revised "Pro Plus MK2" without a screen as a concept....

;-)
(Ultimately, it's not so much a question of cost here, nor of additional costs... which, coming from a Chinese factory, would be very low...)

Just like I’m not going to take the time to read your rant against me, not even worth it. Seems to be a lot of guys on here that are “know it all more than everybody. Dude I just said what I wanted. I don’t need your snooty know at all reply. I’ll just chalk it up if you don’t know what you’re talking about and move on.

No rant here. Just a clear explanation why I don’t need to have heard a piece of kit to know that it’s impossible for it to sound better than any other piece of kit that measures as transparent.

Difficult to disagree with any of those. I wonder how much 3 and 4 are the same thing? The phono stage, as I understand it, is entirely digital. The RIAA appears to be correctly implemented, so is it just the ADC letting it down?

Just in general, more digital ins and outs. And balanced outs.

Finally, a bigger screen. I don’t think they cost a lot. Just seen a review for a $175 amp which has (what looks like) a bigger screen than the Ultra’s.

I've numbered this for ease of reply.

1 - We've covered (and agree on) analogue ins. Headphone output? I'm in two minds on that one. Lots of people will never/rarely use the headphone facility, and an internal amp up to the same standard as the DAC would possibly be the most expensive upgrade. So I can see the point, but I can also see a case for a second set of analogue outs (switchable, so you're not adding an extra DAC) to go to a dedicated external headphone amp.

2 - Nothing wrong with what we have with the current Ultra, but if they can upgrade it without adding too much extra cost, why not.

3 - Yes, I forgot that one.

4 - As with 2, unnecessary, but if it doesn't add to the cost, go ahead.

5 - Yes. If only for the reason that this device would be the ne plus ultra, and not having balanced outs would have people saying it isn't. For real-world applications, this wouldn't be necessary for most, but there you go.

6 - Well, they've made the Sound with a screen, and a Sound Lite without one. Possibly they could go down that route in future, with a screenless Ultra, and this new Ultra Extra coming both with and without.

Hey everybody, first post here.

I love my Wiim Ultra as it is. It's an "Ultra" wonderful product. I have no wish for an Ultra MKII, but more like an "Ultra DIY".
That would be a dream to come true. Yes, I know there are some other brands that do, but they are all discontinued or lacking maintainance and features.
The design could be the base board with jumper connections to add expansions like touchscreen, input and output plate (of course with Wiim logo).
Gpio pins (Trigger, buttons etc.) and of course i2s or if possible TDM (8 channel) are very important.

Imagine the posibilities: your own low noise power supply, DAC, preamp, amplifier from low to highend and this perfect streamer in one box?
I am sure there are a lot of nerds like me out there who would love this.

What do you think? It's basically a naked Ultra with i2s and gpios.

And how would WiiM be able to provide software for this kind of device? Software is the main selling point for WiiM.

Don't understand your point. It's the same software like all their products. Just slightly different hardware and software modifications.
