Features wanted in a Wiim Ultra 2

Don't understand your point. It's the same software like all their products. Just slightly different hardware and software modifications.
What you are asking for either needs the software to be adapted to the core components you want to be able to change or if e.g. by DAC you really mean a self-contained device, then it's really just one big box around devices you can already buy.

There are no universally replaceable components like a power supply module, a DAC module, a preamp, module or an amplifier module that would all work together, no matter what combinations you pick. And I don't see any manufacturer attempting such a system.

The DIY gang tend to use Raspberry Pis or similar.

Look at the productline of arylic and cloudyX. that will explain everything. Bottomline is all the Wiim products run with the Linkplay A98 module. Still, they have to modify the base firmware of this module for all their products. It will just be in the same ecosystem.

A box around products you already can buy? You probably don't understand the mind of an Engineer/Diyer. No offense.

Given @harkpabst has said in the past that they’re an EE, I guess they do have the mind of an engineer ;)

Hey everybody, first post here.

I love my Wiim Ultra as it is. It's an "Ultra" wonderful product. I have no wish for an Ultra MKII, but more like an "Ultra DIY".
That would be a dream to come true. Yes, I know there are some other brands that do, but they are all discontinued or lacking maintainance and features.
The design could be the base board with jumper connections to add expansions like touchscreen, input and output plate (of course with Wiim logo).
Gpio pins (Trigger, buttons etc.) and of course i2s or if possible TDM (8 channel) are very important.

Imagine the posibilities: your own low noise power supply, DAC, preamp, amplifier from low to highend and this perfect streamer in one box?
I am sure there are a lot of nerds like me out there who would love this.

What do you think? It's basically a naked Ultra with i2s and gpios.
I feel that this type of product would definitely not appeal to the vast majority of WiiM owners and users, and probably wouldn’t make sense for WiiM to even consider producing due to the very small number of units that would likely be purchased.

Raspberry Pi just don't fit in the Wiim ecosystem
Which features of the WiiM ecosystem are important to you? Most are probably possible with a Pi.
Having said that I bought a WiiM Amp mainly for bass management then room correction arrived shortly afterwards.

Yes, that is the only concern I have. The rest is not that much of a problem.

Noise on the Ultra is c.118dB, nothing better is needed for human hearing.

I sprreciate some people like to push the figures even further, and if that's your thing, fair enough.

But it doesn't appear to be a game WiiM are playing, nor a market at which they're aiming.

How did we ever enjoy listening to the dynamic range of vinyl? 🤣

Yes, I know. As I said the Ultra is an awesome product. It is all about the Diy thing. If that is not the way Wiim wants to go, than it is okay for me.
I still use their products.
