Getting to grips with WiiM

I got seriously fed up with Sonos when they reduced my two controllers to scrap back in 2017 and wanted to do the same to the rest of the system a few years ago.

I finally made the decision to go with Wiim and am beginning to get there in terms of using it.

Two questions, which I can't find an answer to:-

Is 5Ghz WiFi necessary or will 2.4Ghz be OK? The reason is that neither the Amp or Mini are picking up the 5Ghz signal, even with them on top of the router which supports 5Ghz.

My music is based on Artist/Album. Is there any way that I can add all the artist's albums to the queue in one go?

Many thanks in advance,

Allan

2G is fine but how do you know it's not using 5G?

If close to the router it would be better to use Ethernet cable.

Hello and welcome.

Your topic is tagged "wiim amp pro", but you are mentioning the (WiiM, I suppose) Mini and the Amp. Both should be able to connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The same goes for the WiiM Amp Pro.

You probably did notice the "5 GHz only" toggle switch on the Network Status page of the WiiM Home app for your devices? Changing to a different network has just become a lot easier with the WiiM Home app 3.1.7. Prior to that you had to press the play button for 3 seconds to get your WiiM device into network setup mode if you wanted to make a switch.

Is your music stored on an external media server or do you intend to use a USB storage device (as supported by the WiiM Amp and WiiM Amp Pro)? In the latter case, you can add all tracks to the queue by just playing the first song displayed under the artist's tag, but not in the order of the albums the songs are on.

When using an external media server the ability to do so might depend on its capabilities.

Thanks.

No, it is a USB disk connected to the WiiM Amp. It would be helpful to keep them in Album order.

Since they definitely do support 5 GHz there is still a certain likelihood of something went wrong during the setup process. I wouldn't expect two WiiM devices falling out of spec in such a specific case at the same time.

Did you have the 5 GHz only toggle on or off when you tried to connect?

Obviously there are some very clever people here, so are there any plans for themes or skin mods for the Ultra please.
So far I have not heard of any such talk. You can start a request thread or submit a request ticket in the feedback section of the WiiM app.
