good CD choice

I still think LMS cd-player plugin (using a basic usb cd player, or onboard cd tray on laptop) is the best option. Full control on tablet/screen via Material skin (including playlists, cd-text & metadata). The plugin is a hidden gem within LMS 😀
Is there any complicated setup needed? Does it work on Mac and with the latest Lyrian Media Server version?

There are so many options, it's difficult to choose!

For LMS, a cheap usb drive will work (best with Windows), with cd-text via Musicbrainz. Plays to each & every LMS player. Here's my current LMS players setup (with the cd currently playing to a Sonos Roam - quite amazing how the Roam can produce such a decent sound output)

(Lyrion and the cd drive are using a Win10 micro pc)

Hello Everyone, Please be gentle with me as I am new here and probably more senior in years than a majority of you. I love the Wiim Ultra for streaming from Tidal, Amazon Music and Several Internet Radio Services.

Please can anyone recommend a SMALL CD player or CD drive that is approx the size of the Ultra? It does not need a high quality DAC on board because I am happy with the DAC in the Ultra to do the work. I just want a CD unit to sit either under or on top of the Wiim Ultra and connect into the Optiacal or if possible the USB.

I look forward to your kind help.

Thank You.

Already mentioned in this thread, the Shanling CR60 or a second hand Denon DCD-50 CD player

Or perhaps the Tangent-CD-II-Player, or SMSL PL100

(optic output...)
"modern discman"

SMSL PL100
The SMSL PL150 is becoming available and in my view is more easy on the eye

A lot of us here is asking to Wiim people to give us a simple, easy, nice, CD transport to pair with Ultra + Vibrlink or Amp Ultra.
But anybody answers...

What do you thinks a good CD player companion for the Wimm amp??? nothing too fancy but with either optical out or HDMI arc out..
ARC out is for music too, no??
SMSL PL100 or PL150

Both great value, sound great and have digital outputs for when you want to try other DACs. Both are very small too.

Thank You Everyone so far - One more question if I may please - is there one where I can somehow connect to the ultra and the ultra would show me any meta data if encoded on the CD ?
Sorry to be a pain :)

Do not think so. The Ultra doesn’t read USB streams from attached PCs either.

If you have an external DAC with USB input the Moondrop Discdream 2 CD above, used as a transport is interesting.

I don't think the WiiM can display meta data imbedded in the digital input. There are maybe some CD players that can include it but that's not common.

To overcome this I sometimes use the Shazam app to display what is being played if there are no meta data. It would be cool if that technology could be integrated into the WiiMs.

CDs do not store metadata such as album art. Some but all not all CDs hold track info (CD Text).
You need software that can access online database(s) to retrieve CD metadata.
The Brennan Helix (referenced above) is one device that can do this

Thought that might be the case - I actually have a Marantz HD-CD1 that does display any info if the CD has it but I am going to sell it - I now just want something small to stack with the ultra. The Tanget maybe the way to go but I want to check out all the others you guys have mentioned before I buy - Thanks Again Everyone, Appreciated.
